I hesitate to draw the line Between the two?where God has not" The Annexation Election, With equanimity, if not actual satisfaction, the people of Kingstree teem to regard the transferring of a certain portion of Williamsburg to Florence county, 'ihme have expressed misgivings that the establishment of dispen sariea at Ii?ke City and Scranton wot1.Id injure Kingstree commer eially, but most people here reg&rd that as a remote contingency, as it was distinctly and unequivocally denied at the out set of the movement that any such motive actuated the promoters. Even supi>osing the dispensaries were established, the advantage derived would l>e hut transitory, as within a year or two the question of dispensary or no dis|xnsary may again l>e submitte I to the people of Williamsburg. Th prohibition law as now administered in town and county is admittedly a failure and some chungo will undoubtedly l?e made as soon as practicable ?but that is another matter which opens a wide field of discussion. This home and school for orphans is under the control and is the property of the three Presbyterian syn- j ods of South Carolina, Georgia and ^ Florida. As Thanksgiving day is ( the only day appointed by these c synods to make collections for the j large family of three hundred, all loyal Presbyterians will on that day | send their gifts or collections to the I home. It is located at Clinton. S C. ' ! The Thornwell orphanage receives pupils from all parts of our common country. There are now within its t cottages 183 orphans trom >outn c Carolina, 75 from Georgia and 28 1 from Florida. This home is unique ( in that it does not require release i by guardian or mother of the child; i it gives the child a first class liter- { ary education, instructs in some trade, and sends it out fully equipped for self-care.
