| THE KITS AT BENSOK. f School Notes A Farmer Who Hakes Farming Pay. Benson, November ?The Cedar Swamp school is progressing nicely under the management of Misses Ethel Nesrnith and Volina Ouzt6. The trustees met recently and discussed iheadvisablity of securing the services a third teacher, as the school has increased ;iomewhat in enrollment. In endeavoring to secure a third teacher, a few of the f trons asked that the considered applicant be able to instruct in music. This request for some reason did not meet their approval. The school has organized a society k9*?u as Zetesian Literary Society< wLn the following officers: Miss Ethel Nesmitb, Pres; Mies Louise McGill, recording *ect'y; Miss Sadie .Snowden,' critic; Mi Lilian Parnell, monitor; Miss Annie Tisdale. treasurer. The Cedar Swamp Rural School Improvement association has been organized at this place. We will hear from them by the way of a novel entertainment in tne near future. Harvesting is about completed arouud Benson. The cotton crop is generally sho.t, only a few exceptions making a full crop. Your writer had the pleasure of walking over Mr \V II Parnell's crop a few days ago. He plants on the intensive system strictly. Me caiieu our attention to one acre of cotton that he had picked and weighed two tF^and pounds of seed cotton from. The remainder of this farm of 18 acies would produce one hale to the acre average. And by no means has he neglected his corn, peas, potatoes and hav crop. Hesides he bad hogs at that time to sell. This is cited as an example, illustrating what may be accomplished on a small farm, when properly ditched, fertilized and cnltiva'el. Yet we have hundreds of discouraged farmers this fall with short ciops and b'g debts.
