I With the continued prosperity : that is now blessing this State there i is every indication that the State ! Fair for 1905 will be more largely attended than ever before in its hisj tory. Last year the South Carolina State Agricultural and Mechanical Society celebrated its annual Fair j at its new home in the southern suburb of Columbia. As is usually i the case, there were some little de tails that could not be finished for ' the holding of the last Fair, but , President Guignard has had a full ; year in which to have all of these rough spots smoothed out, and the ( outlook is that never before in its history will the State Fair have a more succeesful Fair than that which is to be held here on October 24th, 25th. 26th. and 27th. inclusive. The inquiry for space at the grounds, as well as from sftiiall exhibitors, indicate a very general api preciation of the value of such exj hibits. A great deal of interest is being shown in the mechanical de* * -1 _ I vices ror use in agricultural pursuits. From the inquiries that have ! been received there will be quite a : number of labor-saving devices exi hibited. and. of course, all up-todate farmers want to see these 1 things. There is. however, a far more interesting phase of the State Fairs j than the mere exhibits in the buildings on the ground, and that is the opportunity for intercourse between the people of the State that- the State Fair offers. i ~ A G Allen's New Orlean's Minstrels Coming. A genuine old-fashioned Southern uiiustrel show by real Southern darkies. Allen's New Orleans Mill strels under canvas. This is the first Minstrel company in the United States to appear under canvas. Mr Allen is the originator of the idea. The interior of his tent is arranged with a mammoth stage and scenery the same as an opera house, but of course 011 a i much larger scale. Owing to the 1 large seating capacity of the tent, which is two thousand, the company is enabled to show for the extremely low price of 25 and 35 cents thus guaranteeing the largest Minstrel production in the world at the lowest price of admission. In fact, pretty much everybody who is anybody in South Carolina is here during Fair Week. Relatives, friends and acquaintances from all parts of the State gather in Columbia to talk about the joys and sorrows of the year, and to join in the festivities. It is the one week that is given up almost entirely by the people of the State towards having a good time, and the family gatherings and reunions that have already been planned for the coming Fair Weekall go to show that this custom at T'air ic IwMncr more emphasized than ever. One ol the particular attractions for a great many folks will be the fact that the 650 cadets of Clemson College will he encamped here during the entire Fair Week. They will give dress parades and drills each day while here, and will have ample time in which to mingle with their friends. A great many people in this State now are taking a keen interest in football. Two of the best games of the year are played here during each Fair Week. In one of these games the team of the South Carolina College participates, and in the other Clemson College engages. Both of these teams are strong and manly, and two exciting ganvs are to be expected. The southern territory is developing a very strong horseracing field. More and better horses are brought here to participate in the races. The finest racetrack in this territory is at the State Fair Grounds, and it has been established at a considerable expense. Every comfort for the patrons as well as for the fine racers has been provided. The city of Columbia, in addition to extending a cordial welcome to the visitors, has arranged for free street attractions.
