On Wednesday, December 3, the home of Mr H B Johnson near Cades, S C, was the scene of a very pleasant affair in the double marriage of his daughters, Miss Margaret Irene to Mr Suimiel Wcldon Jennings of Virginia, and Miss Sarah Pressley to Mr James Luther Covington, also of Virginia. An expectant throng of friends and kindred preceding them had gathered at Bethesda chnrch, where the marriage was to be solemnized by Kev "VV W Sadler of Lake City, after which all returned to the home of the brides, where they received the congratulations of their friends before leaving for Charleston, S C, to enjoy for a season her Fall Festival. From there they were to go to their Virginia homes for a time. The decorations of the church were unique iu many respects and attractive in every respect because of their taste and beauty. Here a hush, as if in reverence for the solemn occasion, rested upon the audience until broken by the low strains of a wedding march from the organ at the hands of Miss Laura Johnson, as the bridal party entered the house. The contracting parties were preceded by?Mr E 1' Johnson with Miss Margaret Hanna, Mr M D Xesmith with Miss Mary Snowden, Mr W P McGill with Miss Jane Perkins, Mr J J Epps with Miss Ethel Nesmith, : Mr S D Snowden with Miss Sal lie Guskins, Mr It C Bell with Miss Annie Cunningham, who with easy grace took their places on either side of a tower of evergreens and ros'es, which contained a large wedding bell, before which the brides and grooms stood facing the audience. Not the least attractive feature of this procession of white clad loveliness and grace were the flower girls, little Misses Lula Johnsyn and Pat Hanna, who showered loses in the path of the contracting couple: as they made their way up the aisle: to the altar. In a few solemn word: they were bound to the same life Then returning to their carriages were quickly driven to their home, where they partook with their friend: of the wedding supper and from which they went forth into a lift * v 1 1 1 ..j never again to ne lnumauai, uui I O ' ever hereafter to be lived for and shared with another. The defendant was repre^ iented by Capt Jno A Kelley and LcRby Lee, Esq., and W L Bass/ Esq., was associated with the solicit or. On account of the prominence' ,\4j )f Myers and James, added to the' :aet that the two' men were brothersn-law, this case excited more than lie interest generally evinced even n a murder trial. At the outset th* $0 ourt room was crowded with spec- . ators, many of whom had been ubpoeuaed as witnesses on one side1 >r the other. At this stage of the proceeding^ vjj| rounsel for defense asked for a con- -' t inuance of the case until the next erm of court. After lengthy argunents pro and can the motion for ontinuance was refused. The" itt >rHeys for defei #e then challenged :.f he panel of grand jnrors on ;;he ground that no seal was affixed tif he writ of venire and no return 0# t : ervice made. After considerable' ,rgumerit 011 both sides thp court js ustaiued the motion and quashed he indictment, holding that the M rbsence of the seal on the writ was a 38 atal defect. This brought the msiness of the criminal court to an ibrupt close. The court then sounded the calec^ lar on the civil docket when it ranspired tnat the venires of petit , y urors for the two weeks were in the % ume condition as to absence of seal md return. The court then an* lounced that no civil cases would be" * ried except by mutual consent at :ounsel. This practically put an ;nd to the jury cases of the civil - }? xrnrt.
