Dear Chronicle: This is SunI day morning, and yet the electric i lights in tlie lofty ball room are still burning and the cav strains of the dance music seem to be still ringing in our ears. If this is not mid summer madness, then what i would rou call it? The Dentists of our State have come and ?.one. They came in large numbers, bringing with them many pretty wives, daughters orj nieces. Many of them who lin? ; gered on after the adjournment will go to day; and it was in compliment to these that the dance last night was paiticularlv brilliant and long continued. The banquet and ball on Thurs day night, in honor of the Dental | Association, made up a rosy and ambrosial occasion. The banquet * * - l * _ 11 _ was spreau on iwo long mines j running parallel with each other through the whole length of the great dining hall. These tables not only groaned with rich viands of many sorts, but were elaborately and beautifully adorned with! fruits, flowers, ferns and palms. At each table sat ninety persons. Each gentleman was accompanied by a lady, and the march into the 1 < sallca manger was an extremely i brilliant scene. The ladies, almost < without exception, were in fullest $ and richest evening dress, and every man had put on his very ( bee*. Champagne popped and sparkled and disappeared rapidly all along the two glittering lines; and when the toasts began, the ( whole assembly was mellow and mirthful. At this grand banquet ( Edgefield showed up right well, t Dr. B il Teague made the hap ( piest and wittiest response ot the evening; Mr. J T Bacon responded ^ to the toast in honor of-The Press,' ( and Dr. George ISharpton w: s easily the handromest voung gen, . c tleman present?the shmingest * pebble on the beach. The Edge- ' field ladies were also shining peb- ' bles: Miss Sophie Simpson, Mrs. Hillarv Crouch, Miss Dosia Werts ami Misses Marie ami An- 5 gle Cheatham. " The ball was extremely brilliant; and many of the ladies, and their costumes, would have done honor ! I to Saratoga. And apropos, it is,^ astonishing how many diamonds, ^ are worn now-a-days. Two | more deaths have occured among [the South Carolina troops at Chickamauga; viz., privates Kinard and Colgan. July 25: G^n. Miles is supposed to have landed on Porto Rican soil by this time. He will await the arrivial of sufficient troops to assure success before making an attack. Santiago, July, 25: Seven thousand troops at 'Guantanumo, a Spanish city, laid down their arms to day, also several thousand more at other points have surrended.
