A very harmonious and successful meeting was held last week under the superintendence of Rev. W. F. Chaplin, at 1 Icasant Hill Baptist Church. * A number of accessions were made to the church, and a wholesome religious influence has been diffused in the community. A discussion then arose upon the causes of tust in cotton, and its pre ! volition or remedy. Mr. \Vr A Mackay stated that hu tried an experiment manuring some rows with fresh straw from the woods and salt aud dissolved bone, others again with Atlantic phosphate, and others still with Goes lime. The re sult, was that the straw and salt and hone cotton, although starting slowly and looking yellow aud billy at firit, is now looking green au 1 llouridiing without a particle of rust, while the Atlantic and Coos cotton is rusting. The stomach is affected with loss of appe tite and sickness; the bowels in gen eral arc costive, sometimes alternative with lax; the head is troubled with pain, accompanied with a dull, heavy sensation in the back part. There is generally a considerable loss of mem ory, accompanied with a painful sen sation of having left undone some thing which ought to have been done. A slight, dry cough is sometimes an attendant. The patient complains-of weariness and debility; he is easily startled, his feet arc t old or burning, and he complains of a prickly sensa tion of the skin; his spirits arc low; and although he i:> saitsiicu that exer cise would be beneficial to him, yet he can scarcely summon up fortitude enough to try it. In fact, he distrusts every remedy. Several of the above* symptoms attend the disease, but cases have occurred .where few of them ex isted, yet examination of the body, after death, has shown the liver to have been extensively deranged.
