The report of Committee met with consid erable opposition on the floorof ihe Conven tion especially from the lower St. Matthews peel ion where Morgan and Sam Louis were contending for the position of member to the General Assembly ami uleo from the Branehvillo delegates). Some expected K. Forest to he nominated, hut instead of him they had a Democrat ami they might as well vote tor one Democrat us another Members freely expressed themselves us preferring the regular Democratic ticket to the one reported by their Committee. During the nbsenco of the nominating | i'oininiltee, Strakcr said the Democrats J were outside with their money trying to buy up ihe members with the view of breaking up the Convention and us (<.ed ni 11 were easily bought he wanted ach and every man t > stay in until the Committee made its report. Ho was satis tied that some of tin- members were easily and willingly bought by Democrats. The Convention adjourned in much eon. fusion and general di satisfaction on the part of a large number of its members some of whom swore they would vote the Democratic ticket before they wou'd stand such a gag.
