This eloeed the tMtimony and Mr. E O. Woods, made the first argument to the jury in behalf of the State. He wm followed by Messrs. Clarke, McNeil, Brown, and Geo. W. Dargan, for Bloom and Mr. C. S. Nettles, for Arm strong. Mr. J. /. Ward closed for the State. All of the arguments were fine. His Honor clearly in structed the jury m to their duties and they retired at 6o’clock, bring ing in a verdict after an absence of almost two hours of ’foot guilty” m to Bloom and “guilty of manslaugh ter” m to Armstrong. The Jndge sentenced Armstrong to imprison ment in the Penitentiary for fifteen years. The trial excited mnch in terest and the Court room wm Ailed with spectators daring the whole time. Mr Blackmon was a rets ran of the war of 1812, and woe quite a htl* old gentleman up to within a short time of hit death. He had a large family of ohillren and left many deoend- ants. The Slate was represented by Mr. Nettles and the defendant by Mr. Brown. On the 6tb of July last some one shot at Mr. Jos. James in day light while he was walking a'ong the road. Mr. James claimed that he recognised Wm. Fields as the assailant. The officer who arrest* I Fields testified that he came without re sistance and that his musket, wt^ch was in his house, looked as if it had no< been shot in some time. The jury, after a short absence, readered a verdict of ‘-not quilty.” Friday and Saturday, of last week were devoted to the Douglas murder trul. a full account of which will be found on another pegs. On Saturday night the Oouit took a recess until 10 o'clock on Wednesday morning, at wbi.-b time the Court of General Sessions was adjourned and the Common Pleas called Tbe fir-t oast taken np was that of Mrs. Blanche l’.
