Cot* ton seed meal aud the phoaphatea are too alow in their action and w ill not be decotniioaed in lime for the The way to do that is to •pread the manures in the balk ami plough them in with the sweep We •pread the third week in July, ou a put of OQr crop, one hundred pounds ot kttinit to the acre, in •very other row, aud ploughed it in with three furrows of the sweep and will apply very scou to o her parts •ome nitrate of soda, fifty pounds to the acre. The effect of top dress ing with these manures ia apparent very aoou. We have had them to •how a very decided improvement In the crop in teas than a week, but then use abould be directed with judgment. Their effect is to pro duce a growth of weed, aud when land has vegetable matter enough to supply all the nitrogen That is needed for the crop, they will not pay. Tou hail better use dissolved bone ou such places instead of tbe kainit or nitrate, aud where cot tou baa overgrown itself or run too aueh to weed the bone is the bet ter manure. We would tuost earn •stly advise farmers wbo use com mercial manures nobto apply tbem 'until June or July, and tbeu as a top dressing. From some cause, 'either over planting or a wet spell, •oar crops are nearly every year •overran with the grass in May or June. Tbe manures, or at least all tboae that dissolve soon, go into the grass aud are there lost to us, •or are bleached out and pass off, but if we 4m not apply them until we get rid at tbe grass or <be wet apejl is over, tbe whole strength of them goes into tbe eottou. This objec tiou does not apply to stable man «re, cotton seed or eottou seed meal, they take longer to «lecom|>oae and are not fit for plaut foml until after tbe grass ia over, and besides that 4t would be impossible to spread «uch bulky manures as stable or eottou seed after the crop is grow ing. Cotton seed meal can be spread at any time, but as that takes longer to dissolve than tbe green wed there is 110 objection to spreading it before we plant. Other commercial manures that •dissolve readily and are easily .spread should not be applied nutil After the crop is partly worked and the first coat of grass destroyed. Tbe expanse of doing then is not •very great and they can be covered •with tbe sweep in tbe working of the crap. The low price of cotton And the suecessiou of bad crop jeara we have had make it neces ear/ for as to economise as much as • possible in tbe expense of manur ing and cultivation, aud we b* lieve from our experience that the appli cation of fifty pounds of commercial fertilisers in June or July will pay better than one hundred before the crop is planted, because tbe grass cot having the stimulus of the mat - are to make it grow will uot be so hard to destroy aud tbe manure ap plied later will all go to the fruiting cf the crop. The effect of an early application of commercial manures, if it ia a fair year for cultivation, is to make a big weed—the manure is exhausted in the production of tbe weed and there is none left for tbe boMa. We have heard some very good farmers say, ^ive me a big weed and 1 am certain of a good crop,* hot oar experience is differ ent. We do not care to see cotton more than three feet high, aud one cf the best crops for the laud we ever saw did not average more than two. It is very pleasant we know to look oe a big weed and imagine to be proportionate 1 of it, hot it does not taro make every effort this moeth to secure a good supply of forage for horse and cattle food. From the appearance of tbe corn erope there will probably be fodder enough made to feed tbe farm horse* and males in toe county bat there is always a demand in tbe towaa and villagee and terpentine farms for all the fodder we can raise, sad if we sell that sad ase other things for borne ase it will • d eomething to tbe money sup ply which threatens to be so . short from the failure of the cotton M-eu (list rate looking bay made of bioom K***!ge. We have never tried it and cannot *-peak practically ot its * alue, but it waasaid to Ue equal to tl e l*es*t crab-grass. We have heretofore lived in such abundance j that we know nothing of the small economies of life, but under our | present sj M* m ol labor it will be necessary to learn them, aud the I sooner we get about it th bettei j lor us. The great secret in farming as in other things is to save at the sp got and uot let out at the bung, aud if we hud the gilt of gab we | would stump the county with that .as our text. M Prince, living at 38 West Fair St., Atlaata, Ga., has been troubled for several months with an ugly form of catarrh, attend ed with a copious and offensive dis charge from both nostrils. Her system became so affected aud redact'd that she was confined to bed at my house for some time, and received the attention of three physicians, and used a dozen bot ties of an extensively advertised blood remedy, all without, tbe least benefit. She finally commenced the use of B. B. B. with a decided improve tnent at once, and when ten bottles had beeu used she was entirely cured of ai symptoms of catarrh It gave her an appetite, and in creased her strength rapidly, and I cheerfully recommend it as a quick aud cheap tonic aud blood purifier.
