This 1 wish you to s op foi inc. "One good turn deserves uuoliier," and as you were friendly enough to publish the ad\\T isement, do this other-saving kindness for me. Let it be known throughout the world thai "Sidjorcher K.o. 10' is gone. This relieves me. An innoeent l:um.*r from the bord orsiof. Lexington (I think) came within the proper time and gently removed hat stoye! And may tue Lord have mere) on nfs miserable so il. And per contract I gave him in. individual cheek on n New York Bank lor 85000. And tuny he be able to run his Christmas crackers and loot horns for his whole family of children on tKat check. But do you know what my man ?1 id for me when. Sworcher went? lie put in her place No. '25. The maker calls her "New box." I call her "Cleopatra" for short, and be cause she is"., s tinner logo." J am not sure that that is such an appropriate name, but t'is better than "Nov box." "Izcbel" might be better for she is a "rip teurer." My man put her up to rapidly that before! hud lim tocrj ovc:'Scorch er's vacant chair" I beheld my new stove, actually burning wood, and wanning me and mine through. Il was u strange sensation ! "Ch opatra" is the very rev< r.-o of Scorcher, you can't keep down her enthusiasm. * he will burn- she'll burn anything living or dead. Every lhin? comes ha dy to her fo?' fuel. Old iron, phosphates, tombstones, green wood, wet wood, dry wood, gun powder, cows, cow hides, pigs, dogs, county commissioners, Sheriffs, coroners, tix Collectors, treas urers, members of the legislature, gov ernors, jaekn.-scs, anything never mind how lough, how unsubstantial, how un proinisi: g tlicsuhjcct, how entirely useless to the coiumunity or lor any purpose whatsoever, she will reduce to good ashes at t:.e shortest notice. There is no joke about "Cleopatra," and my man showed genius when lie selected her, and more so w hen he put her up for mo. He knows Iiis husine.-s.nnd I'll put him against every stove man in tho State. Any one wanting u first clus> article in his line, and wants it set up in a stylo suitable to the article, let him go to my man. He can do it and he will work al it until he suits you, and if he fails in bis first eliort on account of any fault in the stove, and you aro inclined tobe aJiulc"ioki>h1,(l made that word) about it. betakes it all in the most amiable spirit, never gel? mad but pors?Vet';! until lie docs credit to himself his business and your pocket book, you feel warmed?you sec a "Cleopatra before you making everything look chfcerful. and your lending impulso is at once to advertise the man who put lier up, and invite all friends in need of stoves to go right off to him. By the way, we feuud out the cause of "Scorcher's" pcrvcrseness, on taking her to pieces wo discovered a nest of rats (wo killed 42, nt least 70 escaped) jiist in tho bottom of the stove, or ratherol the pipe. I mean where the pipe is let in. They were quite lively. No wonder Scorcher wouldn't run fire whon she was choked up in that way. So having disposed of "Scorcher No. 10," please state that any applications for her will be of no avail. She is gone and I am all right?Happy with "Cleopatra." So I ?am done with stoves, all that was wanted was to get you to stop the people annoying nie about pur chasing. 1 wanted to write you about a very pleasahcsuprise which befell nie last week. It wms not exactly a supriso cither, be cause I only saw and beard what I ex pected to see and hear. I was invited as one of the "pain s conscripti" ("patres' any how) to witness the performances of thescholars at Miss Rebecca' Albergottio's school, preparatory to their vacation. I went! I saw! 1 heard! I came off de lighted! To use an entirely original phrase, "when tboru was so much merit it would be invidious to say that any one of the scholars deserved more praise than another;" So I will not undertake to draw any distinctions. I will not say one word about the individual merits of a single scholar. Resides which when I they all did so well. Were I to shy I had a preference for my own (as I have,) and intimate that they did tlm best (as they did believe) JCvt^y one would say of course I only said so, because I am their patient. So 1 am compelled to speak generally, and state only broad and uudiscriininnting facts, there was no mistake about it, wehther we refer to the spirited dialogues or the elocution,or the composition (original essays for the subjects whereof 1 am disposed to confess that the junior w riters were much indebt ed to the last circus,) every thing was perfect, and the winde performance ic llected the utmost credit on the pains taking, eflicicnt and very lady like teacher. She has certainly spared no labor or time in her careful preparation of her interesting pupils. She fully de serves to have, ami 1 trust she may always have, as many scholars as she wants, and 1 state lu re my earnest conviction, that parents in Orangeburg or elsewhere en trusting their little folks to her guidance and teaching will always congratulate themselves alte: wards, in the considera tion of the good angel who suggested th< thought to th. m. jiut what particulaih struck me about this model school, was the wonderful affection which all of Mis* A's scholars seemed to entertain for her, she governs them bv jove ajone^.It, wns "S:rali'g'6" t TiTne, Tfi?lf \vas~disposed to thiiik that just l here something was wrong, foi you will observe that the scholars wer?, not composed of girls only, there wen bey- too in tliat school, ami 1 never befbn : saw a boy wbo didn't bate his tcachei J with a bit'crViudiciivc and lasting haired. 1 know I did, ami if the same old fear was not in mo yet, I believe 1 could thrash my teacher to this day?yes! and laugh gleefully while doing it. i taught school once myself, didn't teach girls.. 1 taught boys, and I am satisfied that there is not one of those lads, but would put me through a course of my own dis cipline tomorrow; but maybe for the same reason, 1 didn't chine it on my teacher, girls may be different.; but when 1 see boys real boys loving their teacher,'! tun disposed to be suspicious or think there must be a wondrous deal of magnetism in that kindness which can get renl affection out of such notoriously burdened and callous material. I wonder alter all il my teacher might not have been wr ing, and I alter him. 1 think not; some of my boys say all bud to be beat, to get any admiration out of them. 1 am shaken somewhat however now, and when 1 remember that the old mas ters (not school masters but painters) made all their little Hying angels with boys, (mark that) faces. 1 wonder if it was not an inspiration suggested by the plain inherent goodness of boys which could bo drawn by ingenuity. Perhaps these old masters felt ti delicacy about encumbering little giils with such heavy j draping as they put on their angels. Otherwise the lour would be feminine. Subject for reflection ! 1 have wandered of in a sea'of conjecture, J.ets j^et back to the school, just here "1 would wish to remark thai one little maiden recited sonic verses entitled 1 think "only a penny." Well the story was of a little fellow who begged an ol I codger for "only a penny." Old codger said he had no thing smaller than a shilling little boy said "g'nie that I'll bring back the change." Old codger says smiling in credulously "take the shilling you little tip that talk about change is a trifle too mild." 1 /title boy goes off, codger do, too, presently little boys brother or cousin comes to codger's bouse nud snys,"plcasc sir bub wanted to bring you this change; but lie slippc'l on tho Kail Road and broke bis logs, his arms and his back and bad his head cut oil", and his dying words were '"carry back this change." That's the -lory. MottAL. Never carry back change. You w ill get hurt.' I wouldn't allude to this little trifle, but (be maiden was one of my. own tendrils, and 1 would rather not have any improvement made on her pres ent ideas of "carrying back %change." This n< y.cr bringing back change is a tiling perfectly understood in my wigwam already. T'is a household word?1 tore mysclt away. I would have remained longer, but lor an engngenu nt, and Miss A informed me besides that there would be a show up of "mental arithmetic." Tho bank having lately suspended, ant feeling like following after tho bauk,ah(' being bothered for somctime past to worl! out whether I suspended tho bank or the bank suspended me. That subject of mental arithmetic became too dense for} me. I left however with the highest nd-1 miration ofthe proficiency ,diseipline, nud conduct of that school, and wish to its kind teacher the happiest of all her "happy now years, and every success possible inj a profession which she for the first time in tho memory of man, has made a grate-; ful pleasant and thankful one. ^ISI'rIcT COURT OF THE UNI Jt/TED STATES for the Eastern Dis-1 trict of South Carolina? In Bankruptcy. ?In the matte: ofthe Citizens' Savings] Bank .if South Carolina, Bankrupt/: This is to give notice that on tho 1st day: of December, A.
