P()ETKY1 fbr the Times. REVKKIE BY M01XA. Only n few more ycam, Weary yeovs, Only a few moro teara, Hitter tenra, Ami then?and then, like other men, 1 cease to wander?cet.no to weep; Dim shadows o'er my way shall creep, And out of the day and into the night, And into the dark, and out of the light I go ; and death shall veil my face, And the feet of the years shall fast efface My very name, and very trace I leave on earth ; for the stern year's tread, Tread out the names of the gone and dead ; And then?and then, like other men, I close my eyes and go to sleep ! Alas! alas! How -:oon nc pass; And oh ! wo go So. far away ! When go wo must, From the light of life, and the heat of strife, To the peace of death and the cold -till dust, We go, we go, and may not slay? We travel for the long, dark, dreary way; J?iit of the day and into night, Into the darkness, out of the light, And then, and then, like other men, We closo our eye.- and go to sleep? Ah ! mo the grave is lone and deep ! I saw a flower at morn so fair; I passed at eve?it was tint th( re ; I -aw a sunbeam, golden bright, 1 saw a cloud that sunbeam shroud ; And I saw night Digging the grave of Day. Tho day took off her golden crown, And Sadly, slowly, laid it down, And Day at morn the Sun's fair bride, And twilight lent her brow and died, And so, ala^! like Day we pass? At morn we laugh, At eve wo weep, At morn wc wake, At night wc sleep, We close our eyes and go to sleep? Ah ! me, the grave is .?tili and deep. A GR 1 C U L T URAL uA{n?cii!(ure is (he (?'?iura! ''oldest inhabitants" can appreciate their value more than any other class, as they alone are aide to compare the.present .- t?te of agriculture whh that of thirty years ago. Tiny well rememhor the time, when if a cotton planter claimed to have made a half halo (of 300 lbs) per acre, bo cither deemed his audience a parcel of fools, or was himself thought a (it candidate for the lunatic asylum; Vyjipreas, now, all rending farmers (pity there were not more of them!) know that moderate sized fields have been made to yield two bales per acre, and thai there arc instances of G000 Hjs of seed cotton being gathered from a single acre of laud. This progress is in a great in et is uro, due to the influence of agricultural Fairs and Societies, by which fanners arc brought fron: tho seclusion o( their homos into contact with oik another, and from seeing and heaving vvhai others have done, a spirit emulation is stirred up, producing grand results. Their advantage Lothe funning com munity socially, too, i- very great, ns they pres'ent to many, the only opportu nity of meeting friends resitting itt a dis tance, which is heartily appreciated by the families of the planters, and to many fovins the chief attraction of the annual Fn i r. If not it will be an improvement. IT not it will come latter. Let those whom debt and lien -, do not compel to push it into market, not be in hoste to sell at non-paying prices. Debts must bo paid, even if produce l>0 sacrificed, but every one i.- justified in am lione t effort to get r?inil ihimcmtivo prices' for the products of his labor, in any event; let all cotton be ginned and baled as soon a- possible, BO a? to be able to lake advantage of any favorable condition ol the market. The cotton is stffer lob in bale.-? than lying loose in tins gin house. A liberal uso of bagging will pay. It is poor economy to Ic?vo parts of tbo :!<!<?: and ends exposed. The whole should bo neatly covyed, for even in bo strictly a non-fancy arliclo as cotton, a tidy package helps the sale.
