In “Blithe Spirit,” the witty Coward turns his celebrated lightness of touch to the super natural. It is not the scary supernatural, however, but the frisky. His ghosts are on the whole rather agreeable crea tures. Audiences in New York and London, where “Blithe Spi rit” enjoyed hugh success, found the spirits of the farce pleasantly up-to-date and com panionable. The troubles of Charles Con domine, the skeptical novelist of “Blithe Spirit,” start when he arranges a seance to get copy for a new novel. Mme. Arcati, the medium, piqued that he should doubt her powers, decides to demonstrate her gift in a manner the novelist will never forget. She summons the spirit of Elvira, his first wife. Ruth, the second Mrs. Condo mine, is already jealous of the departed Elvira’s superior charms when Elvira brings a- bout Ruth’s death in a motor car crash. After Mme. Aracti materializes the wraith of the second wife, the situation shapes itself into the eternal two of the angles! Newberry College Theatre’s production of “Blithe Spirit” will also feature Tim Robinson, Belton, S. C. jr. in the part of the phantom-beset Condo mine and Yvonne Connor, Charleston fr., as the madcap medium, Mme. Arcati. Other roles have been assigned to Suzi Sale, Columbia soph., Dean Yates, N. J. fr., and Donna Crosland, Aiken soph. The As sistant Director is Julie Corn- well, Chas. soph. “Blithe Spi rit” will be directed by Prof. Dennis Sanderson.
