He is the son of Mrs. John Law Epps and the late Mr. Epps of Newberry. The wedding is planned for June 18 at First United Methodist Church of Lancaster. Club meets at "esional library The Newberry Garden Club met at the Newberry Saluda Regional Library on April 11, with Mrs. Eugene Griffith and Miss Verna S. Kohn, co-hos tesses. Members volunteered to meet at the Roadside Park opposite the Newberry Armory on April 22, during Clean-Up Week, to spruce up their park project. Mrs. 0. M. Cobb, Roadside Park Chairman, has donated four bird feeders for the park area. As Chairman, she will direct the clean-up activities at the park site. The Roadside Park was begun on May 8, 1951. It has won first place in state awards twice; in 1952 for the most attractive completed Road side Park; and in 1958 for the maintenance and continued improvement of parks. In 1969, the park was one of a three- way tie for first place in main tenance in the state. The next meeting will be held at Mrs. 0. M. Cobb’s, 808 Boundary Street, May 9, at 7:00 p.m. Mr. C. B. Parr will oe guest speaker at this cover ed-dish dinner meeting to which husbands will be invited. ira * i* * in Miss Newberry A beautiful blonde college co ed from Jacksonville, Florida is the fifth contestant to enter the Miss Newberry Pageant, announced Pageant Chairman Jay Polen. Lovely Miss Lala Adele Fish, is a freshman at Newberry College. She is 18 years old, the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne W. Fish of 3903 Boone Park Ave nue, Jacksonville. She is a 1971 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. Miss Fish is the fifth and final contestant who will com pete in the Miss Newberry Pa geant to be held April 15 at Newberry High School under sponsorship of the Newberry Jaycees. Lala enjoys science and so cial work along with singing, playing the flute and the ac cordion. Her talent presentation will be an accordion solo. She, or any one of the five contestants this year, may well be the new Miss America. The winner of the Miss Newberry Pageant will enter the Miss South Carolina Pageant to be held at Greenville Memorial Auditorium in July as an ob server before competing next year. Vriezelaar, son of Mrs. McRee H. Vriezelaar of Rt. 2, Prosperity, has been re cognized for helping his Stra tegic Air Command division earn the U.S. Air Force Out standing Unit Award. Captain Vriezelaar is a mis sile operations officer with the 1st Strategic Aerospace Divi sion at Vandenburg AFB, Calif, which received the award for exceptionally meritorious ser vice from January 1, 1970 to June 30, 1971. The unit was cited for suc cessful intercontinental ballistic missile and space launch ope rations in support of research and development and for sup port of the National Aeronau tics and Space Administration and safeguard programs of the U.S. Navy and Army. He will wear a distinctive service ribbon as a permanent decoration to mark his affilia tion with the unit. The captain, a 1961 graduate of T. R. Robinson, Tampa, Fla., received his bachelor’s degree in 1965 from The Citadel, Char leston. He was commissioned there upon completion of the Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps program. His wife, Carole, is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Jones of 208 Sunset Drive, Chester. LIBRARY WEEK EXHIBIT-During the occasion of National Li brary Week, Blair and Genell Boozer are exhibiting their work at the Newberry-Saluda Regional Library. Mr. Boozer is holding a piece of his work, a textured clay urn. On the shelf at left is a weed vase of original design and Mrs. Boozer holds a gemini ewer, all made by Mr. Boozer. In the background is a batik cloth made of silk and hand dyed by Mrs. Boozer. The Boozers are formerly of Jacksonville, Fla. He was president of the Florida Craftsman Assn.
