Colie Boyd Pitts dies suddenly Colie Boyd Pitts, 71, of 802 James St., Newberry, died sud denly at his home Thursday morning. Mr. Pitts was born in Silver- street, the son of the late John Thompson and Lula Reeder Pitts. He was a member of Central Methodist Church. He was manager of McCoy’s Service Station for 30 years before his retirement. More recently he was a security guard at Owens- Illinois. He also was a member of the Woodmen of the World. Survivors include" one bro ther, Madison Thompson Pitts of Douglas, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. Eunice P. Longshore and Mrs. Mazie Abrams, both of Newberry; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral was held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by Dr. Adlai C. Holler. Burial was in Trinity Medio- dist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Key’s mother dies Mrs. Norma Page Raloff of Route 2, Salley, widow of Ha rold E. Raloff, died Friday at the Aiken County Hospital. A native of Greenville she was a daughter of Mrs. Daisy Rop- , er Page and the late Earl Page. She had lived in Aiken County for the past 14 years and was a member of Tabernacle Bap tist Church. She was employed in the accounting department at Owens-Croning Fiberglas. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Patrick Key of Newberry. Funeral was held Sunday at the Tabernacle Baptist Church with burial in Sunset Memory Gardens. Harmon Murrah died Sunday Harmon G. Murrah Sr., 77, of 104 Hawkins Circle, Joanna, died Sunday in Clinton. Born in Johnston, son of the late George M. and Frances Pruitt Murrah, he was a form er employee of Joanna Mills, a merchant and a cottage pa rent at Whitten Village. He was an employee of Gilder-Weeks Drug Store after retirement, and was a member, former dea con and president of the Men’s Bible Class of First Baptist Church. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Cleo Rodgers Murrah; three daughters, Mrs. Rayon Mitchell and Mrs. William L. Sheppard, both of Newberry, and Mrs. Bobby G. Gregory of Colum bia; three sons, George E. Mur rah of Ninety Six and William B. and Harmon G. Murrah Jr. of Joanna; a brother, James P. Murrah of Batesburg; 10 grandchildren. Funeral services were Tues day at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church with burial in Newberry Memorial Gardens, Newberry. Hayes’ father rites Tuesday James E. Hayes, 91, of 810 E. Calhoun St., Anderson, died Sunday. Born in Oconee County, son of the late Robert R. and Fran ces Rebecca Honea Hayes, he was a member of First Bap tist Church, a life Mason, a member of S. C. Association of Public Accountants and was a retired executive of the form er Gossett Mills. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Willie Mae Terry Hayes; three sons, Carl H. and Harry T. Hayes of Anderson and James E. Hayes Jr. of Newberry; a sister, Miss Ella Hayes of Se neca; and six grandchildren. Funeral services were Tues day at 3 p.m. at McDougald’s North Chapel, with burial in Old Silver Brook Cemetery. Newberrian’s sister dies Mrs. Ruth Gray Knight, 41, wife of Walter J. Knight of Orlando, Fla., died Saturday. Born in Abbeville, she was a daughter of Mrs. Bessie Gray and the late Ernest J. Gray. Surviving also are two sisters, Mrs. Kittie Wise of Bradenton Beach, Fla., and Mrs. Jean Dillashaw of Easley; and two brothers, Clarence Gray of At lanta, Ga., and Leland Gray of Newberry. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church near Westminister. Barto Kinsey died Tuesday Barto Kinsey, 71, of Joanna, died Tuesday. Born in Colleton»County, son of the late Thomas Kinsey and Louisa Jones Kinsey Johnson, he was a retired textile em ployee. He previously lived in Whitmire. Surviving also is a son, Ro bert Kinsey of Valdosta, Ga.; a sister, Mrs. Cecil Bair of Orangeburg; and two brothers, Charles Kinsey of Orangeburg and Glen Kinsey of Whitmire. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Rosemont Cemetery in Clinton. Mrs. Nelson’s father passes Eugene R. Palladini, 77, of 1130 Benton St., Columbia, died Wednesday night in Columbia Hospital after a short critical illness. Survivors include his wife of Columbia; one daughter, Mrs. George C. Nelson and three grandchildren, Rick, Larry and Susan Nelson of Newberry; al so two brothers and one sister in Italy. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday at Dunbar Fune ral Home, Gervais Street Cha pel conducted by Dr. John L. Yost and the Rev. Leroy Trex- ler. Burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery. Mrs. Felker’s brother dies Dr. Murry Vance Schwartz, 70, of Miami, Fla., died Nov. 29, 1971, at his home. Dr. Schwartz, a retired phar macist, was born in Lexington County, son of the late John Jacob and Frances Lowdoskey Wilson Schwartz. Survivors include a son and daughter of Florida; four bro thers, Marion of North Carolina, George and Laird of Lexington, Probst of Maryland; one sister, Mrs. Arthur Felker of Newberry. Countain dies in Greenville Ernest Gordon Fortner Sr., 55, of 135 Oakland St., Green wood, died Monday. Born in Newberry County, son of Mrs. Annie Fortner Harvey, he was a veteran of World War II and a member of Mt. Ver non United Methodist Church, Washington, D. C. He was a retired owner and operator of a trucking company in Wash ington. Surviving also are his wife, Mrs. Margaret Ward Fortner of Brentwood, Md.; two sons, Er nest Fortner Jr. of Maryland and Alton Fortner of Okinawa; two brothers, Eldridge Har vey of Laurens and Francis Har vey of Chevy Chase, Md.; and two grandchildren. H. M. Harmon died Tuesday Harrison Monroe Harmon, Sr. 85, of Rt. 1, Pomaria, died Tuesday. Born in Newberry County, son of the late John Harrison and Margaret Caroline Wicker Har mon, he was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church and a retired farmer. Surviving are his wife, Ola Long Harmon; two sons, John Simpson Harmon of Pomaria and H. Monroe Harmon of Prosperity; a daughter, Mrs. Broadus Berry of North Augus ta; two sisters, Mrs. Belle Gre gory of Blair and Mr. Carrie Kinard of Pomaria; six grand children and four great-grand children. Funeral services were Wed nesday at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mat thews Lutheran Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Berley Shealy dies at age 83 Berly C. Shealy of 421 Rodel- sperger St., 83, died Tuesday. Shealy was born in Lexington County, the son of the late James E. and Elvira Boland Shealy. He was Newberry Coun ty jailer before his retirement. He was a member of Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church and a former church councilman. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Alice Hiller Shealy; four sons, Sheriff B. Eugene Shealy and L. N. Cleborn Shealy of New berry, Frank M. Shealy of Dur ham, N. C., and James G. Shealy of Sumter; a daughter, Mrs. Lewis Hawkins of Pros perity; a brother, Daniel Shealy of Chapin; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 3:30 p.m. Thursday (today) at Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church, with burial in New berry Memorial Gardens.
