Dr.Daniel was born in Wal- halla, a son of the late Joseph L. and Letitia Smith Daniel. He was a graduate of Wofford Col lege and received his A. M. de gree from the University of South Carolina and his doctors degree from Harvard Univer sity. He was principal of Abbeville High School and the public schools in Conway. He was for mer state high school super visor for the State Department of Education and was profes sor of education at the Univer sity of South Carolina, retiring in 1965. He was a former supervisor} of the Merit System of the; State Department of Public Wel fare and was a member of the American Association of Uni versity Professors, the S. C. Education Association and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Dr. Daniel was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Delta Kap pa, Kappa Phi Kappa, Pi Gam ma Mu and the Kosmos, Torch and Wardlaw clubs. He was a member of Central United Meth odist Church in Newberry. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Frances Gibson Daniel; a niece, Mrs. Margery Williamson of Newberry; and two nephews, Dr. B. Daniel Paysinger of Co lumbia and S. D. Paysinger of Newberry.
