Brown, a 5’11”, Cheerleaders to have camp here Junior and senior high school cheerleaders will have an op portunity to learn the latest in routines, formations and in all phases of cheerleading at New berry College from July 19 to July 24 or from July 26 to July 31. The training session for cheer leaders at Newberry College is one of 41 being sponsored this summer by American Cheer leaders Association (ACA) on college campuses throughout the country. Mr. Lauer was guest speaker at the annual District Meeting in Charlotte pre sided over by Dr. Jeremias, Carolina Dis trict Director. a 6 11", 180-pounder, allowed 34 hits and 12 runs this spring while pitching 53 innings for the Orangeburg squad. Dur ing the eight games he pitched for the high school team this spring, he threw 685 pitches. He was also the pitcher for Oitange- burg’s Post 4 American Legion team last summer and is plan ning to pitch for the Legion naires again this year. Turbeville ranks him as “one of the outstanding pitchers in the state”. The College mentor is counting on Brown to give the Indians a big boost during the next four years. Newberry plagued with weak pitching this spring, finished the 1970 season with an 8-18 record. Turbeville expects to use Brown next spring in the mound crew of Mr. and Mrs. of Orangeburg. J. W.
