Auxiliary State Convention to be this weekend The 49th Annual Convention of the American Legion Auxi liary , Department of South Car olina will be held Friday. June 27 through Sunday, June 29 in Greenville at the Poinsett Hotel. Mrs. M. F. Bowler, President of Unit 24 American Legion Aux iliary announces the following delegates and alternates for the Convention: Mrs. Bowler; Mrs. Frank Martin, President-elect for 1970; Mrs. VV. Roy Ander son, Mrs. Ray Nobles, Mrs. P.K. Harmon, Mrs F Scott Elliott, Mrs Sudie Wicker, Miss Grace Cromer, Mrs. Harry Epting, Miss Grace Summer, Miss Sud ie Dennis. Mrs. J. F. Hawkins, Mrs. Tom Fellers, Mrs. W. H Davis. Mrs L G McCullough, Mrs Hedy Clark, Mrs. Earl Taylor and Mrs. Eldon Sum mer. Mrs. Sidney S. Stokes of Orangeburg, president of the Department, will preside over the convention. Music for the convention will be under the direction of Mrs. P. K. Harmon of Newberry, as sisted by Mrs. George Hazel- ton of Lexington. Mrs. Nella Hollingsworth, of Varnville, will serve as conven tion chaplain. General registration begins at 10 a.m. on Friday and at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday in the lobby of the Poinsett Hotel. The executive board meeting will be held at 11 a.m. in the Furman Room. The formal opening of the convention will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Poinsett Room. Past Department President’s dinner will be held at 8 p.m. at the Poinsett Club, with Mrs. Alice D. Bizdell of Charleston as hostess and presiding. On Saturday, June 27, a Past Presidents’ Parley breakfast will be held in the Poinsett Room, at 8 a.m., Mrs. Bizzell, hostess. A joint session with the Amer ican Legion will follow at 9:30 a.m. in the Piedmont Room. The Honorable J. Phil Campbell, Under Secretary of the U. S. Department of Agriculture, will be the speaker. The second general business session will be at 10:45 a.m. in thePoinsett Room. Highlights of the meeting will be the present ation of the Palmetto Girls’ State Governor for 1969, Miss Judy Peters of Hampton; for Lt. Governor, Miss Jennel Rob inson of Charleston; and First Citizen, Miss Stephanie Brown of Ridgeland. These young lad ies will receive trophies to be on display this year at their respective schools. Mrs. M. F. Bowler of New berry, Americanism Chairman, will announce the winner of the Americanism Essay and present the check of $50 offered each year for the best essay received. At 1 p.m. there will be a luncheon honoring the Gold Star Mothers. This will be host essed by Mrs. A. E. Carmi chael. Mrs. Stokes Business session will recon vene at 2:30 p.m. in the Poin sett Room. Mrs. Carmichael, of Lake View, will conduct an im pressive memorial service in honor of the members who have deceased since the last Depart ment Convention. Mrs. D. I. F. Sherard, Jr., of Calhoun Falls, member ship chairman, will recognize Units receiving “Unit of Dis tinction Citations” and “Nation al Presidents’ Citation” for work accomplished in member ship. Also, Citations will be pre sented to the Units that have achieved goal since Spring Rally. The Auxiliary and American Legion will hold a joint banquet in the Piedmont Ballroom at 7 p.m. Saturday. The convention religious and memorial service will be held in the Poinsett Room at 9 a.m. Sunday. The final general business ses sion will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the Poinsett Room. The focal point will be the installation of officers, with the changing of the colors of Department Offi cers. The newly elected Auxiliary Department President will be presented to the American Leg ion at 12 noon by the outgoing president, Mrs. Stokes. A post executive board meet ing will be called in the Poin sett Room at the pleasure of the newly elected president. Mrs. Roy E stone, Jr. and Mrs. James F. Daniels, Jr., of Unit 3, Greenville, are serving as co-chairmen for the conven tion. Mrs. P. C. Aughtry, Mrs. Albert Dow and Mrs. R. V. Mad sen are also members of the Convention Committee and Mrs J. J. Wooten is President of the Hostess Unit 3. MOVE TO TEXAS Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Long shore and family have moved to Dallas, Texas, where Mr. Longshore has accepted a posi tion with Eastern Air Lines. Mrs. Cumalander rites Wednesday Mrs. Louella Boland Cuma lander, 87, wife of James Cum alander of Little Mountain, died Sunday night in the Lowman Home after a lingering illness. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ellen Maddox of White Rock; one brother, J. D. Boland of Clinton; two sisters, Mrs. I. V. Matthews and Mrs. H M Fleid- ner, both of Little Mountain; and a grandson, James F Mad dox of Norfolk, Va. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Garth Hill and the Rev. Kenneth Webb. Burial was in the church cemetery.
