This (Thursday) morning, local businessmen and women were to gather at the Community Hall to eat some of those good Newberry County produ cer eggs, and to pay tribute to the industry. The more eggs you buy and use, the more you are helping your health and the economic health of the county. Be sure to ask for Newberry County eggs! LATE DATE This is a mightly late time to mention it, but each week before it has slipped my mind (as things often do). I do want to tell the members of New berry Fire Department how much I enjoyed their Christmas decorations at the firehouse. A lot of thought and effort went into their preparations to ex tend holiday greetings to New- berrians and they deserve a word of thanks—even at this late date. Hamm Auditor Newberry County Miss Lucy Epps service Friday Miss Lucy Ramage Epps, 88, died Wednesday at the New berry County Memorial hospi tal after a short illness. Miss Epps was born in this county, the daughter of the late John Law and Mary Caro line Glenn Epps. Miss Epps was trained as a Deaconess in the Methodist church in Nash ville, Tenn., and served as a Deaconess in Danville, Va., for two years. She gave up this work in 1914 when she returned to Newberry because of her father’s ill health. She became employed at the County Treas urer’s office, her father being County Treasurer at that time. After her father’s death, she was employed by the Southern Bell Telephone Company and was office manager for many years. She joined Central Methodist church in 1901. She organized a Sunday School class for young boys and later organized a Bible class for young ladies, which was later named the Lucy Epps Bible Class. She has helped many young men get a Christian education who have gone into the Christian ministry. She is survived by a niece, Mrs. Caroline Lipscomb, of Florence; and three nephews, John L. Epps of Newberry, Sanford Epps of Augusta, Ga., and Dr. George Epps of Colum bus, Georgia. Funeral services were held Friday at Whitaker Funeral Home by Dr. George Duffie. Miss Tanner will join 12 other technical services librar ians throughout the State for the special one-day session, sponsored by the South Caroli na State Library Board and conducted by Mrs. Janet Fresch Paris, chief cataloger of the State Library Board. The workshop is being held in anticipation of the adoption of the revised Anglo-American Cataloging Code in public lib raries throughout the State. The new code is designed to streamline the cataloging pro cess, to make the operation of cataloging more meaningful, and to make the resulting cat alog a more useful guide to the resources of a library. New teachers at Academy President James C. Kinard of the Newberry Academy an nounces that beginning with the second semester this week Mrs. Mary Amick Funderburk will succeed Mrs. Frances M. Beach as teacher of General Science and English Literature in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades. She comes to the Acad emy with a successful teaching record in the Greenwood City School System. Mrs. Funderburk is an A.B. graduate of Converse College, has done graduate work at the University of South Carolina and has taken Education courses at Erskine College. Her husband, Rev. Donald F. Fund erburk, is pastor of Epting Memorial Methodist church in Newberry. Miss Laura Summer of New berry, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. Earl Summer, will succeed Mrs. Jerry B. Forte as teacher of the second grade. Miss Summer expects to have the baccalaurate degree con ferred at the regular commen cement exercises of Columbia College in June. Mrs. Beach and Mrs. Forte resigned because their hus bands, both of whom are with the State Forestry Commission, have been transferred, Mr. Beach to Walterboro and Mr. Forte to Lancaster. Permit issued for WKNG A county building permit in the sum of $12,000 has been se cured by L. J. Matthews for the construction of a building to house Radio Station WKNG.
