Rabies clinic schedule Piano students in recital Mrs. Moon dies; service Fridays Mrs. Emily Turner Moon, 70, died Wednesday afternoon at the Newberry County Memorial hospital after several months illness. Mrs. Moon was born and reared at Hopkins in Lower Richland county and was the daughter of the late John C. and Kate Hogan Turner. Her husband, J. P. Moon, died last December. Mrs. Moon was a graduate of Lower Richland High school; Columbia College and had taught music in the schools and private lessons in her home. She was a member of First Baptist Church, a former member of the Newberry Music Club, a resident of Newberry for the past 50 years. Mrs. Moon is survived by one sister, Miss Oneida Turner; three nephews, Rufus, Charles, and Hugh Turner. Funeral services were held Friday from McSwain Funeral Home with Rev. J. Anderson Bass, conducting the service. Burial was in Rosemont ceme tery. Active pallbearers were Ralph Wilbanks, Fred Lester, Jim Wheeler, Preston Kunkle, J. K. Willingham, Charles Wise and T. E. Epting. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Elbert Dickert, Dr. Ralph Baker, Fred Gilbert, Gordon Clarkson, and D. O. Carpenter. Piano students of Mrs. Hal Kohn presented their informal Spring recital last Thursday afternoon at Mrs. Kohn’s home on Johnstone Street. Taking part were Bonnie Sparks, Margie McAlhany, An gie Dixon, Beth Dixon, Patricia Sparks, Anne Summer, Marcia Nobles, Ann McAlhany, Boyd Parr, Mary Layton, Susan Ward, Bruce Shealy and Conii Sanders. Mrs. Kohn, assisted by her students, served refreshments at the conclusion of the recital program. KOHN IRIS IN BLOOM ON 76 BYPASS Hal Kohn’s iris on Highway 76 bypass are now in bloom, and he invites the residents of the county to visit his place anytime this week. Mr. Kohn states that this has not been a good iris sea son because of the unpredict able weather, but recent rains have helped some and he would like to share the beauty of the flowers in bloom with others. While visiting the garden, Mr. Kohn reminded visitors to see the flock of peafowls. Quite of ten one will see five or more of the males “strutting”, an un forgettable sight, Mr. Kohn said. Mrs. Sanders’ mother dies Mrs. Maude Ella Duffie, 75, died Thursday in Providence hospital. A life-long resident of Saluda, she was the mother of Mrs. James Sanders of New- erry. Also among her survivors is a brother, Webb Duffie, of Newberry. Funeral services were held Saturday at Butler Methodist church. Lamb succumbs in Richmond Charles T. Lamb of Rich mond, Va. died last week after a long illness. His wife, the former Annie Sligh of Newber- ry, died several years ago. The late Mrs. Sligh was a sis ter of Mrs. Frank Sutton, Miss Gussie Sligh and Mrs. Claire Sligh of this city. Hunter speaks at HC meeting T. William Hunter, National President of the Rural Electri fication Association was guest speaker at the annual Spring meeting of the County Exten sion Homemakers Council held last Wednesday. Mr. Hunter gave the history and highlights of the organization through the years and projected thoughts on the future of electricity. Mrs. W. C. Koon, president, presided over the meeting at tended by 60 members and guests. A most inspiring devotional based on the 23rd Psalm, was given by Mrs. Ira Gibson, County Family Life chairman. Furnishing entertainment for theprogram were the following: Song, June Nelson; Song and Dance, Nancy Ruff; Piano Solo, Kathy Moore; and Tap and Acrobat, Cheryl Shealy. Mrs. Govan Sease held a memorial service for members deceased during the year. The attendance award was presented to Tranwood Club for having the highest percentage of members present. A social period was held fol lowing the meeting with mem bers of the St. Phillips Home Demonstration Club as hostess es. Mrs. Musco Alewine .presi dent, of the hostess club pre sided at the punch bowl, and during the program gave the welcome.
