C., Thursday, April 6, 1967—PAGE 6 Development Board gives report of work Dave Morrison, executive sec retary of the Newberry County Development 'Board last week issued the following resume of last year's activities and ac complishments of the Board: The Newberry County De velopment Board has completed another successful year, one that promises to bring in 500 new jobs, creating a sizable payroll. Add this to our other new industries developed over the past four years and we have 1000 new jobs. This is quite an accomplishment and one of which you can all be justly proud. In the face of all this suc cess, we do not intend to sit back and rest on our laurels, rather, we envisage continued orderly growth that will bring more industry for areas of our county that have not advanced with this new prosperity. These areas have excellent sites, an abundance of untapped labor resources and all the other attributes so necessary to in dustrial growth. It is interesting to note the value in dollars and cents that Just 100 new factory workers can impart to a community. These 100 new employees will bring in 296 more people: 51 more school children, $270,000 more bank deposits; 4 more retail establishments; $360,000 more retail sales per year; 112 more households; $590,000 more personal income per year; 107 more passenger cars regis tered; 174 more workers em ployed; and $50,000 additional state taxes. (These figures are based upon a study made by the U. S. Chamber of Com merce.) With statistics like this, can we afford to slow down in our endeavor to ob tain more industry for con tinued orderly growth ? We are sure that our mer chants are reaping the rewards of these new industries through increased sales and more pro fits. You have also noted the establishment of additional re tail outlets, specialty stores, motels, restaurants and serv ices. More parking facilities are now available in the down town areas. Growth is self-evi dent in all areas of the county. Stone, son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Stone of Rt. 1, has received his first U. S. Air Force duty assignment after completing basic training at Lackland AFB, Tex. He has been assigned to Eg- lin AFB, Fla., for training and duty as a construction special ist. He becomes a member of the Tactical A i r Command which provides combat recon naissance aerial firepower and assault airlift for U. S. Army forces.
