Volume .‘>0—Number 41 Newberry, South Carolina, Thursday, February 2, 1967 $2.00 Per Year by the way.. . By DORIS A. SANDERS HARD TO THINK It’s a little hard tu "think" a column with a runny nose, sore throat and earache, so this week’s offering will come from others. The first iUmi Be low is reprinted from the Charleston News and Courier. The second is a letter to the editor, published in the Feb ruary l't issue i'f the Pres byterian Journal. The “Clydie” reft rred to in the second article is the penname "f om* of the Journal’s on-and-off contnbu- tors. REFORMINC CAR (AMPI'S (New- and Rou'uer) While (io\i'rnor lionald Rea gan is a target for attack by the "aeademie establishment” all over the Cmted States, it is worth noting that he cast only one of 1-1 votes by the board of regents to dismiss Dr. t'lark Kerr as president of the Cniversity of California. The decision, which carried 14 to S, has been called “a smash ing victory” for the new Re publican Covernor of the roam try’s largest state. If new leadership for the university can re-tore control over fractious students and mm-student agitators who have stirred campus turmoil. the victory may belong to the pub lic as well, and to the thou sands of dedicated professors who are genuinely interested in education as contrasted with political action. We n te not in a position to argue the pros and cons over President Kerr, or what he might have done to restore or der on the campus at Berke ley and decorum to higher ed ucation in California. Mrs. Randolph Hear.-t. a regent and wife of the newspaper publish er, said Rn sident Kerr was fired "for lack of administra tive ability.” de- Ik ’ h;i!
