Newberry NOTICE There has been a revision to the Zon ing Ordinance of the City of Newberry pertaining to the locating of mobile homes or house trailers. Anyone contem plating the moving or re-location of the above please check with the office of the Building Official at City Hall. Also there has been a revision of the Zoning Ordinance and Map pertaining to an area at the southwest corner of Harrington Street and Wilson Road. NEWBERRY HIGH SCHOOL CAMPUS COMMENTS By Gail Phillips and Barry Shealy “Only one more day until Christmas holidays!” .This has been the cry of the students of Newberry High School today. Two whole weeks of sleeping and eating and having fun—or will the holidays be spent studying for examinations and practicing for All-State Band auditions, as ex aminations begin on January 14 and All-State try-outs are to be held on January 18. On Friday, December 11, a por trait of Mr. A. W. Murray was presented to the student body of Newberry High school by the Key Club during the chapel program. Steve Price, president of the Key Club, presented the portrait to Mr. Kneece, who accepted it on behalf of the students and fac ulty. Last Friday night, the basket ball teams journeyed to Aiken. The scores of the games are as follows: Girls 29-31, Newberry winner. Boys 54-42, Newberry winner. The NHS Band presented their Christmas program on Monday night, December 14, in the High school auditorium. The program was centered around a living room scene where a group of teenagers were repairing toys for the under privileged children. Gail Phillips and Barry Shealy sang two duets and solos were sung by Jan Moose, Kenny Hewitt, and Tommy Hamrick in “Nuttin’ for Christ mas.” Accompanying the singing group at the piano were Willy Gillfillan, Katherine McCullough, and Barry Shealy. The Nativity was enacted during scene II. Steve Rowe sang the solo to “We Three Kings” during this scene. On Wednesday, December 16, the mixed Chorus presented a pro gram of sacred Christmas music in the First Baptist Church of Newberry. The chorus was accom panied by Carol Armfield and Judy Farb at the piano, and Barry Shealy at the organ. Solos were presented by Sue Brock, Gail Phillips, Judy Willingham, Wayne Folk, and Brantley Price. The chorus also presented a program of sacred music in chapel Friday. Since the holidays are coming up and there will be no activity at Newberry High school during this time, our column will not ap pear in The Sun again until Jan uary. This Christmas, if you cannot give a gift to someone, try giving a smile! MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR! BARRY and GAIL A. B. Youmans dies suddenly A. B. Youmans, 64, died sudden ly Wednesday afternoon of last week at his home in Hollywood, near Charleston. He had returned from a dove shoot a short time earlier. Mr. Youmans was born and reared at Estill, but had made his home at Hollywood and Char leston for a number of years. For over 35 years he had been connect ed with the Standard Oil Com pany and was recently honored at a company meeting. Since his retirement six months ago he had made his home in the Mt. Pilgrim section of Newberry County near Prosperity but had returned to his Hollywood home to spend the winter. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Hollywood. Mr. Youmans is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sara Long Youmans of Prosperity and Hollywood; three daughters, Mrs. Paul Wade, Greer, Mrs. McCall Adams, Ben- netsville and Mrs. Jackie Boineau, Adams Run; one brother, H. W. Youmans, Estill; and four grand children. He was a brother-in-law of Dr. Von A. Long of Newberry. Funeral services were held Fri day in Hollywood and final ser vices were held at Mt. Pilgrim Lutheran Church Friday after noon. Burial followed in the cem etery of the church. Active pallbearers were Jim Pet Cook, Drury Lovelace, Virgil Hawkins, Lester Hawkins, John Schumpert and John B. IN HOSPITAL Mrs. Frank Reddick, who has been a patient in a Columbia Hos pital since Thanksgiving Day, re turned to Newberry County Me morial Hospital Monday afternoon where she is recuperating. Mrs. Reddick broke her hip in a fall and underwent surgery in Colum bia. Her condition is reported to be satisfactory. BIRTH OF SON Mr. and Mrs. Eugene C. Grif fith are receiving congratulations on the birth of a nine pound, two ounce son, Eugene, Jr., on Decem ber 12 at Newberry County Mem orial Hospital. Mrs. Griffith is the former Anne Bruner. The Griffiths are also parents of a daughter, Harriet Leanne.
