Mr. Metts was bom and reared in the St. Phillips section of the county, a son of th e late Captain William Glenn and Rebecca Sligh Metts. He moved to the Bachman Chapel section in 1915, where he was a member, and where he serv ed in the church council for more than 38 years. He also held var ious other church offices. He was a farmer and had served on the equalization board of Newberry County, and on the board of trus tees of Jolly Street school. His wif e , the former Cleora Kinard Metts, died in 1961. He is survived by three sons— Royal Jeff Metts, Thomas W. Metts, and Clarence B. Metts, all of Prosperity; two daughters, Mrs. Isabell M. Kinard of Pros perity, and Mrs. W. D. Kinard of Joanna; one sister, Mrs. Lyda B. Sh'aly of Saluda; 20 grandchild ren and 22 great-grandchildren. Two sons, Roy Metts and J. C. Metts, preceded him to the grave. Funeral services were held at 3:30 P. M. Tuesday at. Bachman Chapel by Dr. Grady L. Cooper. Interment was in the church cemetery. Honorary escort was George I. Kinard, J. Walter Richardson, Homer A. Such notice shall be by Registered Mail, addressed to said owner, or agent of said owner, at his last known address. He w r as a native of New berry county, but had lived in Joanna for 30 years and had been employed by the Joanna Cotton Mills for 29 years. He was a son of the late Jobie and Annie Long shore Davenport. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Alice Morgan Davenport of Jo anna; four sons, Charles, Edward and Jeff of Joanna, and James M. of Norfolk, Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Jeanette D. Baker of Ninety Six and Miss Ruth Davenport of the home; one brother, J. H. Dav enport Sr. of Joanna, and two sisters, Mrs. G. F. Boozer and Miss Essie Davenport of Newber ry. Funeral services were conducted Monday at the First Baptist church. Burial was in Rosemont cemetery, Clinton. The Newberry College Music Department will present the fol lowing sophomore and freshmen students in a joint recital in Holl and Hall at 8:00 P. M. Friday, May 17.
