COUNTS The seventh annual lawn show sponsored by the Palmetto Poul try Association was held Sunday at the Newberry Fair Grounds. The large cow barn was almost filled with around 700 birds, which were entered by 71 exhibi tors from nine states. The Palmetto features a certain breed of bantams each year and the show this year brought out the largest exhibit of Japanese bantams ever shown in the South, according to Johnny Batson, presi dent. Also one of the largest crowds attending a show was present. A banquet was held Saturday night preceding the show and a picnic dinner was served on the fair grounds at midday Sunday. There were 44 different kinds of bantams shown. Pete Parrott of Newberry, secretary and treasurer, stated that the large number of entries made the l Palmetto Japanese Jamboree a 1 success. The states from which entries were received were North and South Carolina, Alabama, Flori da, Georgia, Illinois, Massachu setts, Tennessee and Pennsyl vania. The nationally known judges were: C. Roy Smith of Lake Lure, N. C.; Robert V. James of Jefferson City, Tenn., and John Wunderlich of St. Louis, Mo. Kendall Company Earnings Off The Kendall Company, manu facturer of surgical dressings and textile specialties, reported net earnings of $673,000 on sales of $23,674,000 for the twelve weeks ended March 22, 1958. For the corresponding 1957 period, earn ings were $867,000 on sales of $24,674,000. After preferred divi dends, net earnings for the first twelve weeks of 1958 amounted to 63c per common share, compared to 82c in the same period last year. Richard R. Higgins, president, said this reduction in earnings was due primarily to the lower volume of shipments, off 4% from a year ago. Long President Of NCEA Group John Grady Long, Silverstreet area superintendent, was elected president of the Newberry Coun ty Educatioh Association for the ensuing year at the NCEA meet ing April 17. Mrs. Elmer Epting was elected vice president, Mrs. Wayne Abrams, secretary and James D. Brown, treasurer. John E. Elliot was elected to the executive committee. UDC State Head To Be Here Mrs. T. W.
