The Phoebe-Rebecca Group of the women of the church had a Christmas party, Wednesday Night, December 19th at the home of Mrs. Jeff Hamm, Jr., Mrs. P. C. Singley for whom the circle was named and Mrs. H. B. Hendrix, president of the local U. L. C. W. were guests. Several Christmas contests fur nished entertainment. The group sang Christmas Carols. The drawing of gifts added much merriment. Woman Succumbs William LeRoy Sanders, 74, retired chief electrician of the Wateree Textile Plant, died at his home on the Jefferson Davis Highway in Camden at 2:30 p. m. Sunday after an extended ill ness. Survivors include a daughter. Mrs. Edward Barnes of Newber ry. Funeral services were conduct ed from the Wateree Baptist Church at 4 p. rn. Monday, by the Rev. Marvin Simpson. Burial was in the Quaker Cemetery. DR. K ESTER UNDERGOES MAJOR SURGERY The many friends of Dr. M. L. Kester, formerly of Newberry, will regret to learn that he is a patient at the Colleton County hospital, Walterboro, where Jie underwent major surgery Monday of this week. It is expected that he will be confined to the hospital for about two weeks. Mrs. S. A. Quattlebaum spent the .Christmas season with her son Col. Cecil A. Quattlebaum and family at Warner Robins, Ga. Misses Ethel and Kathrine Coun ts spent several days last week with their cousin in Atlanta, Ga. Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Sykes and their two sons, Johnny Jr., ^nd Steve are spending the holidays season with relatives in Lancas ter, S. C. and Raleigh, N. C. Rev. and Mrs. J. B. McFerrin, Miss Sara Mae McFerrin, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Luther returned home Friday from a weeks visit with the McFerrin’s relatives in Miami, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Foster, Mr. and Mrs. Phifer and their two children of King’s Mountain, N. C. spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Richard Foster and .Mrs. J. L Counts. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Lewis and their two sons, Hugh and Ralph, left last Thursday for Fla. They first go to Jacksonville and visit Mrs. Lewis’s brother, Frank Sch- umpert and Mrs. Schumpert. Hipp and Jane Boozer, both of Newberry were united in marriage on December 19th by the Rev. Neil E. Truesdale, at New berry. Clayton H. Collins of Columbia and Cornelia Derrick of Prosperity were united in marriage at Pros perity on December 15th by the Rev Ray P. Hook. Wayne D.
