Lawson conduct ing, will open at Bush River Bap tist church this Sunday at 11:20 morning worship service. Inspiring and informative topics will be discussed at services each evening, Sunday through Thurs day at 7 p.m. Churches of the Reedy River association are invited to join in this progressive program in which the association’s missionary, Mr. Lawton, is leading. An invitation has been extend ed to the public generally to participate. Gruber Services Held Thursday From Hitt Home Noah Drayton Gruber, died Tuesday at Neptune Beach, Fla., after several week’s illness. He was reared in Newberry, the son of Christopher and Mary Ann Rickard Gruber of Newberry County. He left Newberry about 1917 and has resided in Jackson ville, Fla. for the past 20 years. He was a retired exipress messen ger for the Seaboard Railroad, and a member of the First Bap tist Church of Newberry. Surviving are his wife, the for mer Miss Daisy Hogge, Newber ry; two daughters, Mrp. Lucille Gruber Hume and Mrs. Maude Gruber Cogburn, both of Nep tune Beach, Fla. Funeral services were conduct ed at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Hitt, Nance Street, Newberry, by the Rev. C. O. Lamoreux and the Rev. Leroy Blackwelder. Burial followed in Rosemont Cemetery. Miss Johnson Awarded Degree At University Of S. C. (Miss Tommie McCain Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas P. Johnson, Calhoun street, was a member of the 1962 graduating class at the University of South Carolina, which was held Monday evening January 27th. Miss Johnson who completed her work for Master of Education in the elementry field of educa tion, received her A.B. Degree at Newberry College. She also did graduate work at Wofford Col lege. Since graduation from New berry College, Miss Johnson has been engaged in the teaching profession. She first taught after graduation in the Great Fall schools, and is now a member of the faculty of the Greenwood city schools. She has been at tending the University on Satur day to continue her education. Those attending the graduating exercises were Mr. and Mrs. John son, Newberry; Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Niven, and Mr. and Mrs. T. G. Anderson of Monroe, N. C., and Mrs. Carl Bennett and son Carl Bennett of Lancaster. Harry Dukes Gets Degree In Textiles Harry Luther Dukes, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Dukes re ceived his degree in Textile Manufacturing, at the mid-year graduation exercises at Clemson College Monday, January 28th. Harry, a ROTC student, who finished as a “Distinguished Mili tary Graduate,” will enter the army immediately with the rating of a second lieutent. He will spend a couple of weeks with his parents here, before leaving for active duty after receiving his ordfers. Mr. and Mrs. Dukes and Mrs. W. C. McHenry of Greenwood, attended the graduation exerciser Sunday. Lexington County, a son of the late Lawson and Mrs. Edith Rish Amick. He was a member of Macedonia Lutheran Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Le- lar Shealy Amick; two sons, Yan cey L. West Columbia; and Mal colm C. Amick, Prosperity; four daughters, Mrs. Lottie A. Amick and Mrs. Harold Ruff, LeXingtbn; Mrs. Eugene Bobb, Prosperity; and Mrs. Wyman Shealy, New berry; one sister, Mrs. J.- J. Shealy, Lexington; one brother; Allen Amick, Chapin; 21 grand children and 19 great-grandchil dren. Funeral services were conduct ed Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Macedonia Lutheran Church by the Rev. John Koch, Dr. E. Z. Pence and the Rev. Horace Lind- ler. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Lt. David Neville Assigned To Eighth 2nd Lieut. Davied Neville, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. D. W. A. Neville, 1450 Calhoun street has been assigned with the Eighth Infantry Division at Fort Jack- son. Lieutenant Neville entered the military service on September 12, 1951 and received his initial Infantry training at Fort Benning, Georgia as a student with the As sociate Infantry Company Officers Course. A graduate of Newberry high school. Lieutenant Neville attend ed Presbyterian College, Clinton, where he graduated with an A.B. Degree last year. Prior to entering the service he was em ployed by his father who operates the Neville Bottled Gas Company. Services Conducted In Ga. For Sister Of W. O. Wilson W. O. Wilson was called to Gainesville, Georgia, Sunday be cause of the serious illness and death of his oldest and last sur viving sister, Miss Attie Wilson. Miss Wilson had made ex tended visits in the Wilson home in Newberry. She was the daughter of the late Eliza Frances Parks and Jacob Samuel Wilson of Banks County, Georgia. During her girlhood the family moved toi Gainesville, where she spent most of her life. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 o’clock in the Oak Grove Baptist Church of which she was a member. Interment followed in the church cemetery. I. T. Timmerman and /Mr. and Mrs. Furman Sterling accompan ied Mr. Wilson to Gainesville.
