While the handbook is in keeping with the Navy policy of encouraging young people to graduate from high schools, it urges them to plan their ca reers as early as possible. The Manual urges these young peo- I pie to work toward their goal by taking subjects and obtain ing experience which will con tribute to their chosen field. This day was set aside to honor and pay tribute to the Doctors of the state. The movement to observe Doctor’s Day was begun by the Auxiliary to the Barrow coun ty Medical Society of Winder, Georgia in 1933. The date March 30th was chosen because this was the day Dr. Crawford W. Long first used Ethes Anes thesia in surgery.
