NAVY HANDBOOK PLACED
IN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOLS
The United States Navy has
placed a very attractive “Oc
cupational Handbook” in each
high school in Newberry coun
ty, which contains descriptions
of 62 vocations for which the
Navy provides training for any
one wishing to take during a
three-year period of enlistment.
Besides the 62 vocations, the
book presents four additional
sections on advancement 'from
“Recruit to Petty Officer,”

“Women Jn the Navy,” “Com
missioned Officers and the ‘Na
val Reserve.”
Each brief gives a definition
of an individual job, its duties
and responsibilities, where em
ployed, the path of adancement,
related Naval and civilian oc-
j cupations and the emergency
service rating which would be
used during a war.
While the handbook is in
keeping with the Navy policy
of encouraging young people to
graduate from high schools, it
urges them to plan their ca
reers as early as possible. The
Manual urges these young peo-
I pie to work toward their goal
by taking subjects and obtain
ing experience which will con
tribute to their chosen field.
