PAGE ETCMt THE NEWHEKRT Sim FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 1942 MEETING OF UDC CHAPTER Due to the fact that the State and the General UDC conventions have had the dates of their annual meet ings advanced, it was necessary that Drayton Rutherford chapter hold an earlier meeting than usual so as to get reports, credentials, etc., in order before the time limit for their receipt. Sixteen members met at the home of Mrs. R. D. Wright on Tuesday, September 1, with Mrs. Hunter Brown associate hostess. This was the first meeting over which Mrs. Brown, the new president, presided. A very welcome visitor was Mrs. J. S. Wooten of Columbia, a former as- tive member of the chapter. l It was unanimously voted to make Mrs. P. F. Baxter an honorary mem ber for life, she having given many years of faithful, loyal service in the chapter. This junk will be sold at prevailing prices and the entire pro ceeds donated to the Red Cross and Women’s Council of Civilian Defense for the soldiers Center in the Old Court House. % Here's what you can do: Ransack your own cellar, attic, and garage for anything made of metal (old pipe, drums, valves, furnace parts, toys, batteries, lighting fixtures, motor parts, tools, etc.) Collect all you can, then phone us or tell your nearest re tail soft drink dealer. o The Co-operation of Thousands of Soft Drink Dealers Has Already Been Assured They will aid you and us in locating, collecting and bringing in every possible pound of scrap metal. Use your legs and arms and voice in this salvage campaign. Get in your own scrap first, then get your neighbor to do the same.
