II. larper and the late Mrs. Harper of Lyndhurst, S. C. He attended the University of South Carolina, where he received the LL.B. de gree. While at the University he was a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. After a short wedding trip the couple will make their home in Williston, S. Friends of Mr. James Faulkner, who received his diploma from the McCormick High School last week, ; will be interested to learn that he has accepted a position in the furniture department of Sears Roe buck Company in Greenville, S. C. Mr. Robert H. Middleton, Jr., of Macon, Ga., and Miss Lake Middle- ton of Columbia, S. C., spent the pAst week end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Middleton, at Clarks Hill. Mr. R. M. Winn of Plum Branch was a visitor here Tuesday. Miss Blanche Middleton of Clarks Hill left Monday for Roanoke, Va., where she has secured work for the summer. Mrs. W. J. Talbert has returned from Greenville where she spent last week with Mrs. Ed. C. Curdts. Mr. and Mrs. Lexie Croxton of Kershaw spent last week with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Dea- son. Give Party At Community House Mrs. Tom Anderson and Mrs. J. E. Young entertained with a most delightful party at the community house here Thursday afternoon. The spacious reception room, where a profusion of cut flowers and evergreens was arranged was a beautiful setting for the twelve tables arranged for bridge and 1 rook. * Following the games the hostess es served a chicken salad course with iced tea. Out-of-town guests included: Mrs. T. C. Anderson, Sr., and Miss Nancy Anderson, of Ninety Six; Mrs. G. G. Dowling, Mrs. Perrin Anderson, Mrs. Ray McGee, Mrs. Sarah Lipscomb, Mrs. Pope Young, Mrs. Joe Beaudrot and Mrs. Eugene Pratt, of Greenwood. -txt- 4-H Winners To Attend State Short Course Mr. R. N. Edmunds of Parksville was a visitor here Saturday. Miss Annie Lee Yates of Talla hassee, Fla., is spending a few days here with Mrs. Harvey Sanders. Miss Lucile McGrath, who un derwent an operation for appendi citis at the St. Francis Hospital, Greenville, last Thursday, con tinues to recuperate satisfactorily. On Saturday, May 29, twenty- six 4-H club girls attended the County Achievement Day held in the Court House, for the purpose of selecting seven girls to attend the State Short Course at Win- throp. One girl was selected from the Dress Review, one from Health Contest, two for having the best Notebooks, two on Judging and one on Record Card. The winners were: Dress Review, Thelma Brown, McCormick. Health, Emma Belle King, Plum. Branch. Notebooks, Louise Rich, Wash ington, Nettie Louise Morgan, Washington. Judging, Carolyn Freeland, Plum Branch, Elizabeth Cothran, McCormick. Record, Maggie Franklin, Mc Cormick. The second, third and fourth place winners in the Dress Review were, Audrey Loveless, Natalie Brown, both of McCormick, and Rae Gilchrist, Parksville, who re ceived Gold Filled Pins. The other twenty-two received Silver Pins. The first place winner will re- I ceive her medal at State Short Course. ■ —T- Cartledge-Abell Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Cartledge of Parksville, S. C., announce the marriage of their daughter, Nettie Ruth, to Mr. L. L. Abell of Colum bia and Abbeville, S. C., on Sunday evening, May 23, 1937, at 6:00 o’clock. The ceremony was per formed by the Rev. M. E. Derrick, pastor of the McCormick Metho dist church. The bride and groom were attended by Mr. Tillman Abell, twin brother of the groom, j Mrs. Abell wore for her wedding a flowered crepe dress with har monizing accessories. Mrs. Abell is a young woman of sterling qualities and charming personality and is endeared to all who know her. Her many friends are glad that her marriage will not take her away from home for the present. Mr. Abell is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Abell of Blythwood, S. C. He holds a responsible posi tion with the Western Union Tele graph Co. and is presently located in Abbeville, S. C. Immediately after the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Abell left on a short wedding trip. She is a graduate of Anderson college Daily Short Course News Broadcast Over WBT, Charlotte “During State Short Course to be held at Winthrop College the week of June 7-11 a daily broadcast over W. B. T., Charlotte, will be given by certain of the women in attendance at Short Course. This broadcast will be made from 8:05 to 8:15 each morning. Many will be interested in “listening in’’ to these programs. On Tuesday, June 8th, particular ly the broadcast will be most In teresting as the winners of the Gee Loving Cup and the State Loving Cup will be announced by the Pres idents of the winning County Councils. During the week high points of the Short Course will be given each day in the form of entertaining skits along the line of the topic of the Short Course, Mrs. Home maker Goes Shopping, of Hints to Housekeepers.
