Community House
Mrs. Tom Anderson and Mrs. J.
E. Young entertained with a most
delightful party at the community
house here Thursday afternoon.
The spacious reception room,
where a profusion of cut flowers
and evergreens was arranged was
a beautiful setting for the twelve
tables arranged for bridge and 1

Following the games the hostess

with iced tea.

tinues to recuperate satisfactorily.
On Saturday, May 29, twenty-
six 4-H club girls attended the
County Achievement Day held in
the Court House, for the purpose
of selecting seven girls to attend
the State Short Course at Win-
throp. One girl was selected from
the Dress Review, one from Health
Contest, two for having the best
Notebooks, two on Judging and one
on Record Card. The winners were:

Branch.

The second, third and fourth
place winners in the Dress Review
were, Audrey Loveless, Natalie
Brown, both of McCormick, and
Rae Gilchrist, Parksville, who re
ceived Gold Filled Pins. The other
twenty-two received Silver Pins.
The first place winner will re-
I ceive her medal at State Short
Course.

Cartledge-Abell
Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Cartledge of
Parksville, S. C., announce the
marriage of their daughter, Nettie
Ruth, to Mr. L. L. Abell of Colum
bia and Abbeville, S. C., on Sunday
evening, May 23, 1937, at 6:00
o’clock. The ceremony was per
formed by the Rev. M. E. Derrick,
pastor of the McCormick Metho
dist church. The bride and groom
were attended by Mr. Tillman
Abell, twin brother of the groom,
j Mrs. Abell wore for her wedding
a flowered crepe dress with har
monizing accessories.
Mrs. Abell is a young woman of
sterling qualities and charming
personality and is endeared to all
who know her. Her many friends
are glad that her marriage will
not take her away from home for
the present.
Mr. Abell is the son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Abell of Blythwood,
S. C. He holds a responsible posi
tion with the Western Union Tele
graph Co. and is presently located
in Abbeville, S. C. Immediately
after the ceremony Mr. and Mrs.
Abell left on a short wedding trip.

Daily Short Course
News Broadcast Over
WBT, Charlotte
“During State Short Course to be
held at Winthrop College the week
of June 7-11 a daily broadcast
over W. B. T., Charlotte, will be
given by certain of the women in
attendance at Short Course. This
broadcast will be made from 8:05
to 8:15 each morning. Many will
be interested in “listening in’’ to
these programs.
On Tuesday, June 8th, particular
ly the broadcast will be most In
teresting as the winners of the Gee
Loving Cup and the State Loving
Cup will be announced by the Pres
idents of the winning County
Councils.
During the week high points of
the Short Course will be given each
day in the form of entertaining
skits along the line of the topic
of the Short Course, Mrs. Home
maker Goes Shopping, of Hints to
Housekeepers.
All interested are asked to tune
in for these broadcasts.”
