Rogers says that according to the Irish Potato Act of December 1, 1935, every fanner who grows Irish Potatoes for sale in any quantity, no matter how small, is required to make applica tion for his sales allotment in or der that he may sell potatoes tax free. Application blanks, which have not yet been received, may be obtained upon receipt of same from the County Agent’s Office. There will be a County Committee and a State Committee to determine the allotment for each individual grow er. This allotment will be based upon the potato history of the farm and its operator for the years 1932- 34 .inclusive. it would be well for all Irish Po tato growers in the county who ex pect to sell potatoes next ^ear to begin getting up their sales his tory during the base period from 1932 up to December 1, 1935. It is necessary that substantiating evi dence of sales be furnished, which in many cases may require the grower to produce statements from' the person to whom he sold during the period, showing dates of sales and amounts. All potatoes sold in excess of the grower’s allotment will be subject to a tax of three- fourths cents per pound. As fur ther details are received, informa tion will be furnished to McCor mick County potato growers through this newspaper and the county agent’s office. 1XI W. O. W. FIGHT TUBERCULOSIS We rejoice at the glad news that tuberculosis is preventable and curable. Our hearts sink though to find that it is still the most deadly enemy of our youth. In South Carolina last year tuberculosis killed more young peo ple than all the other communi cable diseases combined. It brought sorrow and death into over 1,000 homes. Children, friends and neighbors of hundreds of careless or undiag nosed cases of tuberculosis are now in danger.
