Plowing che stalks under or grazing destroys the immature stages of the Weevils in squares and bolls npw infested and it stops the growth of squares in which weevils might develop la ter this season. This stops the de velopment of weevils many of which would hibernate sudce&fully, and this in turn, decreases the number *f weevils which will emerge in«the spring. X Ford Cars Capture ~ Three-First Places ’ In Big Road Race The fundamental need of con trolling production cf some basic farm commodities, especially those that were formerly sold in large quantities to foreign countries, has not been removed by the new na tional. program of direct Federal buying Of foodstuffs for use in feeding the needy, according to of ficials of tlie .Agricultural Adjust ment Administration. -The plan of direct purchase and distribution will help to remove present surplus of some products in the best possible way—by feed ing them to people who need them. It has “rediscovered” a market for farm products within the bounda ries of the United States, and will result in marked increase in food consumption by the three and one- half million families who are re ceiving unemployment relief through public funds. The problem of over-production of farm commodities, however, still must be faced. Exports are largely restricted through closed foreign markets, and even the fullest pos sible domestic consumption will fall far short Of using up all of many bakic farm products' which we have been producing. “Of course, the 1 program of re lief buying does not solve the sur plus problem,” says SecretaVy of Agriculture * Wallace. “It merely offers a nettf means of attacking that problem.^ For even in years like those from 1925 to 1929, when nearly all our peoplif could buy all they needed to eat and wear, the farms of America produced far more wheat and 1 pork and cotton tha^ all the people of the nation could possibly use. That is,-still «rub. “We are face to face with the ne cessity for planning our production tofit the needs of all our people, plus what we can reasonably ex pect to export at a fair price. Be yond that total volume, of course, production would be wasteful, and production control to guard against waste will continue to be neces sary.” * Under and by virtue of a warrant issued to me by the County Treas urer of McCormick County, I have seized the following described proo- erty to satisfy the taxes due the State of South Carolina and the County of McCormick, for the years 1929, 1930, 1931 and 1932, and the same will be sold to the highest bidder for cash on salesday in No vember 1933. during the legal hours of sale in front cf the Court House Door ; at McCormick.
