H \ Mil's FINK C1IICKKNS. Declares Thai There In Money and Pleasure hi Poultry Business. So often one hears the remark that "there's nothing; in poultry raising" and "chickens are more trouble than they are \v6rth" that few people nre I Inclined to attempt this uncertain In- , dustry, particularly those who live in towns or cities. However, there are, pleasing exceptions to the rule, one of which may be cited le re in the city of Laurens. While he has not amass ed a fortune in the chicken business, ("apt. Oscar W. Babb has made some money in addition to supplying Iiis ta ble With chickens and eggs. It may he worthy of note that ('apt. Babb's chicken yard ?s scarcely more than 30 by r,0 feet, which he has en closed and covered .vith poultry wire. Besides this yard he has a barley patch adjoining, of about the sann* dimen sions, and then a "scratch" yard of about l.'i by 50 feet. The chickens are turned in the barley patch for about live minutes every day, ami are al ways fed in the scratch yard. Three years ago, ('apt. Bnbh bought 0 white leghorn hens from Mr. Aver hill at the Columbia State fair, paying $1.50 each. From Wilber brothers in I Petros. Tenn. he purchased a white leghorn < eck. the price of which was $1(1.bit. Of the chickens he has raised he saved 0 pullets and now has N hens. Yesterday he got I 1 eggs from 1 the yard, a remarkable yield at this ! time of year: later in the spring he ! will get 12 and 13 eggs every day. In addition to supplying his table with eggs. ('apt. Bnbb soul GO settings the first year, deriving from this source about $00.00 besides the sale of $10 worth of chickens. The second year he sold in settings for $IU and about the same number of chickens. Aver aging up the sales, hi" has made about $.M> a year on chickens ami eggs, af ter supplying his table with both. Asked what kind of chickens he liked the best. ('apt. Babb said:"I pre fer the white leghorn every time, first because it is the best laying chicken I know of and then because it is the ; prettiest". And to see bis yard is sufficient proof of the latter statement. ('apt. Bnbh uses an S0-Cgg incubator and declares it very satisfactory, lie I says that right now is the best time of the year to raise incubator chick ens: that they thrive now better than at any other time: later, he says, they will die of the white dysentery. They must be raised now, though, with the brooders. ('apt. Babb states that his efforts at chicken raising have been eminently satisfactory, that there is money in the business even on a small town lot and that there is a peculiar pleasure in working with pretty fowls. Deafness Cannot he Cured by local applications, as they cannot reach the diseased portion of the ear. There is only oni' way to cure deaf ness, and that is by constitutional rem edies. Deafness is caused by an In ! flamed condition of the muscous lining j of the Bustachlan Tube. When this tube is Inflamed you have a rumbling sound or imperfect bearing, and when it is entirely closed, deafness is the result, and unless the inflammation can In? taken out and this tube restor ed to its normal condition, bearing will be destroyed forever; nine cases out of ten are caused by Catarrh, which is nothing but an Inflamed condition of the mucous surfaces. We will give one hundred dollars for any case of deafness (caused by ca tarrh i that cannot be cured by Hall's Catarrh Cure. Send for Circulars free. F. .1. CHENEY & CO., Toledo, O.
