Mr. Caldwell is night yard conductor at Monroe ] and stepped between two cars to uncouple the air hose when the switch engine struck the cars at ' the other end causing him to fall between the cars. Williams of the Douglas church neighborhood will he married today to Miss Freddie Hicklin, daughter of Mr. A. W. Hicklin. Evans died 011 factory hill Monday night after a long illness of cancer of the face. Less than two weeks ago Mrs ! II at tie E. Hubbard moved to this place from Hlacksburg, having arranged with Mrs. M. J. Terry to occupy her house and board the family. On her arrival she complained of a bad cold and the following day went to bed with la grippe, which in a few days developed into a case ot pneumonia and terminated in her death Thursday night, despite the best medical skill, the services of a trained nurse, and the kind attentions of Mrs. Terry and her neighbors. 9 Mrs. Ilubbard was the widow of W. S. Hubbard, who was in charge of the railroad shops at Hlacksburg and died verv sudden ly at that place last summer. I'rior to her marriage she was a Miss Johnson and lived in Augusta, Ga. She was about 48 years or age, a member of the Methodist church and leaves no children, except [an adopted daughter. Iler remains were taken to Blacksburg yesterday afternoon for interment by the aide of her husband. Kev. J. 1. Stokes, pastor of the Methodist jhurch at Yorkville, and a lifelong friend of the deceased, carne >ver and accompanied the remains to Blacksburg, conducting he funeral services yesterday afternoon ?Saturday's Ledger. Blackmon, of the Taxahaw section, died last Friday night after a protracted illness. She was a daughter of the late Jakie Faile and was about 50 years of age. She leaves a hus band and two daughters. Thomson as cashier of Lancaster's prosperous bank, Mr. Thomson having resigned to devote his entire time to the increasing and exacting duties as secretary and treasurer of the cotton mills : Rock Ilill is to be a big loser ; ? He has, however, definately aecepted the cashiership of the Bank ol Lancaster, the position having been made vacant by the retire- i ment of Mr. Waddy O. Thorn- < son, who has been put in charge i as secretary and treasurer of Mr. Leroy Spring's large mill interests. Mr. Harrison's family will not go with him, but will follow in a short time. Mr. Harrison has been a cit izen of this city for thirteen years and is fully identified with the town and a supporter of its best interests. He is popular with the people generally, because he has treated everybody right, has been courteous and kind to all, and such a man is always appreciated. Beginning here as book keeper, he worked himself up to the position he holds so well to the satisfaction of all concerned. Mr. L. 0. The Board of Direc tors of the National Union Bank, Rock Hill, in acting upon Mr. Harrison's resignation, last Sat urday passed the following resolutions : Resolved, that the Board of Directors of the National Union Bank accept with regret the resignal ion of Mr. L. 0. Harrison as cashier, and desire to go on re cord as expressing their high ap preciation of the valuable ser vices rendered by him during his long association with us. The Board further desires to express their best wishes for the i success of Mr. Harrison in his new connection. Mrs. Glenmore Barron and child came over from Lancaster Saturday afternoon and was the guest of Miss Sophia Bynum in Oakland. % Misses Daisy and Ida Iluey left Saturday night for New York to buy a stock of millinery and dress goods for E.K.Cloud. Mr. Cloud will also visit the northern markets in a few days. Col. Leroy Springs of Lancaster was in the city a short while yesterday, returning from a visit to Charlotte. W. T. Williams of Lancaster spent Sunday in the city, the guest of A. II. Greene at the Carolina Hotel. P. W. Hardin of Lancaster spent Sunday in the city at the home of W. S. Brown. Mrs. Hardin who has been spending several days in the city returned homo with him yestorday morning. ? Mr. Steve Williams a stu- dent of Furman University is at his home for a few days vacation.
