The Snrrender o! Manilla. Chicago,Juno 11.-Con Thomas M. Anderson has addressed to the Kecord-IIerald a letter given his version of the surrender of Manilla, in which he differs materially from the statements made by Admiral Dewey. Gen. Anderson's letter savs in part: "Several days before the assault made on the 13th of Aug ust Father McKinnon, the chaplain of the 1st California, after going into Manilla told him he could not and would not surrender without a fight, as he had to fight for the honor of Spain. Subsequently Gen Merritt directed me to draw up the tractical order for the attack and this was done on the assumption that there would be a bona fide resistance. In the attack and the preceding skir misli we lost 122 killed and wounded. ;"I now learn for the first time that my correspondence with Aguinaldo was not approved by the Admiral. He had no occasion for a correspondence. I wrote some letters to Aguinaldo which seemed necessary then.
