On Saturday, September 23, at 30a.ru., in nautical parlance e sun ''crossed the line" and enred the zodical sign Libra. The itumnal equinox forms one of e cardinal points which have ieu the subject of astronomical iservation trom the earliest me'/because of their relation to e change of the seasons. Such egnant Celestial points as the >o equinoxes, which mark the ur cardinal positions of the n's apparent annual circuit und the heavens, have always rmed favorite basis on which to ound the vaticinations of learn1 astrologers. By erecting a fige of the heavens for the moent of the sun's ingress into ese four salient points, star lilosophers have n?*t hesitated forecast changes and events, ar or pestilence, cyclones or irthquakes likely to befall. And ,ndor compels the admission at many of these scientific arnings have been only too agically verified. The astrological figure of the [iiinox is constructed for the titude and longitude of the seat ivernment, and if, as in the esent equinox, a fixed sign, like jo, ascend thereat, the planetaaspects of the minute are bejvcd to remain in force during e three succeding months. The 'esent autumnal equinox is aught with the most protentous gnificance. It tills the horizon ith omens of pending calamity, e full Iruititionof which may Ltend over several years. This [uinox may be regarded as the 'ant courier of a train of diwasrs that are almost sure to fol- ' w the annular eclipse of the; n and the accompanying planerv combination on the night of ecember 2d next. On that date, , i. i > p. n>.? win occur such a por11 to (i s grouping of planets ound the eclipse as have i.ot! ion seen for many thousand >ars. The sun, moon, Uranus, iturn. More particularly is the coming eclipse and accompanying planetary conjunctions fraught with danger to this country, for they all occur in the sign Sagitarius, which is directly in "opposition" to Gemini, which "rules or governs" these United States. Astrologers all know that the "opposition" is an exceedingly bad aspect, and hardly inferior in its consequenes to the actual presence of the great group of planets iu Gemini itself. Such a tremendous combination of adverse potencies as will be in action on December 2nd is calculated to give pause to the boldest imagination in attempting to unravel the probable results to this country. But before hazarding any vaticinations on this matter let us first glance at the planetary positions of the recent equinox: When the sun entered Libra, twenty-six degrees of Aries were in the mid-Heaven, and eight degrees ef Leo on the ascendant. The sun and Venus were in conjunction in the third house, indidicating great prosperity for railways, while Mercury in the second house, but close to the cusp of the third, denotated cunning and tortuous methods of adminisfarinr. ? t d " tci Itjp, iuc unnuuHi UUHUCRB. rUTthermore, this position suggested more craft than integrity in handling railroad and trust earnings, and gave a significant warning to people to keep an eager and a curious eye upon their own interests. If possible this prognostication was emphasized by iSaturn and Neptune both casting a sinister square aspect to Mercury. The moon was posted in the tenth house in the sign Taurus, and received the opposition of .Jupiter and the trine (l'JO degrees) of Mercurv. which positions am sue. gestive of a somewhat weak, extravagant and highly self-conscious administration of the Government. Saturn and I'ranus were situated in the lifth house, which governs pleasure, amusements, theatres, hotels and gambling, and the presence of the t wo malelic plants there is a sure indication of strange accidents, casualties, or tires accompanied by an appalling loss of Jife. As November nears its end, the weather will grow stormy and tempestuous, with cyclones and rumblings of earthquakes down in the South ern States. It is altogether probable that as the period of the solar eclipse draws near, some al together new and unfamiliar meteorological phenomea will be' observed, especially around Charleston ana places heretofore visited by shocks and grumblings of earthquakes.
