A letter to Mr. W. .J. Baker, from Mr. .1. N. Cook of Palestine, Texas, announces the death of Ceorge Cook, son of Mr. John K. Cook, on the 17th instant, from pneumonia. Ho was sick only ' about four days. The deceased 1 moved with his father from this 1 county to Texas about 15 years ago and has lived there ever since. He was about 30 years of age and leaves a wife. (\, was receive*! in Columbia Monday night that Clint Stephens, a young white man who had worked on a railroad in Florida, came home the :>ther day. He was ill when he arrived and very soon after reach ing home he died. His little sister who had come in contact with him was taken ill and died 24 hours later. The opinion is that it was a case of yellow fever. The governor's attention has been called to the matter and he lias taken steps to ascertain whether or not it was yellow fever.
