We welcoiqe The Times to our exchange list. The receipts of the internal revenue department for the year ending June 30, aggregate $273,484,582, more than a quarter of a billion dollars. Of this amount more than $43,000,000 was raised by stamp taxes and about $5,000,000 by other war taxes INVESTIGATIONENDS; DECISION REACHED. Penitentiary Investigating Committee Preparing Report. Greenville, August 3.?The investigating committee linished its work this morning. Col. Jones arrived and was put on the witness stand for about two minutes to testify as to the W. W. Russell note for $000, which Col. Xeal has included in his liabilities. Col. Jones handled the note at the Carolina National bank and merely testified that it was a new note, not a renewal, and had been placed to the ciedit of the penitentiary. Mr. Stevenson then announced that Mr. Russell couhl not on ae count of sickness add his tosti mony. However, the committee would allow it to he recorded that it is admitted that were Mr. ? Russell present he would testify that the note given by him July 8, 1808, was an accommodation note, and was not given to take up any papers signed by himself or by Russell A l'ret well. This closed the taking of testi mony in the investigation celebrated as one which ha? not been a white-washing affair. Col. Neal, in his statement of liabilities, conceded that he owed the penitentiary $.1.!07.27. Yesterday there was another item added, $387.17, tor oats from .1. J. Kretwell. This makes Col. Neal's (leht $3.58 1.1 1 as rmipf-ilnit !.*? himself and attorneys. However, the committee claims that he is involved for $11,000. They contend that he owes the peniten tiary $7,400 for convict hire in addition to the $l>,f)84.l4, and a few smaller item?, which Colonel Neal has overlooked in Ins state ment. The committee will not submit its report at once. The report will be written tomorrow, hut will not be sent to (iov.
