J AST E " LANCASTER DEAD ON THE TRACK. ! Hoily of Brother of Lato Gov. Ellorbo Horribly Manirlod. Special to The State. Florence, August 5.?Thursday night Herbert S. Fllerbe, brother of the late (lov. Ellerbe, was killed either by the fast southbound passenger train No. 35, or else by foul play and placed on the track to conceal the crime. The accident happened between i Sellers and Latta, and was not i known in Florence until late I yesterday afternoon. A Negro coming along the track yesterday j morning discovered the mangled remains and reported his discovery to the agent at Latta, who notified the coroner of Marion county and J. DeJongh of this city who investigates such matters for the Atlantic Coast Line. The accident was horrible in every detail. ' Portions of the i man's body were found strewn 1 ib. i I- i ^ * * uiuug uiu iracK 10 i"ee uee Driuge, and it is Haid when the train arrived at Charleston some of hia clothing and a part of his remains were taken from the trucks of the rear Pullman car. The crew were not aware of the accident until the train reached Charleston. It is hlmost impossible to tell how the accident occurred, but from the fact that the unfortunate man had that day sold tobacco at Latta, the theory of foul play has been advanced. When found, his trousers' pockets were turned inside out, and one cent was found upon his person, although it is stated when last seen he had $5. It might be that he was murdered and placed upon the track. Mr. Ellerbe was about 25 years old and unmarried. The remains were interred at the family burying ground at Sellers.
