AGRICULTURE. I HaVy my opinion founded upon close and varied observation, that hor ses can and (1o convey to each other very exact intelligence by the various sounds they produce, from the proud, sonorous neighings of a lull spirited horse, down to the whinnyings and snortings and other little sounds with which all keepers of horses are famil lay. Once, in a long stable containing twenty stalls In a rqW, a horse.at one end was dying. Near the other end was a horse of a timid disposition which showed marked signs of dread a nd extreme nervousness, as thou h conscious of what was going on, tre - Hug from head to foot, and streaming with perspiration. I feel convinced that intelligence of what was passinu had reached this horse, and that being of a nervous temperament, the poor animal had been troubled to the pain ful extent we had witnessed. Another example of a different kind. It often happened that I was away from the company for weeks and months at a stretcl and on some of these oca sions I 'had to return along the road by which the circus was comin thus meeting the vans one after ta other iall down the line. When yet there was some distance between myself and the nearest van, my horse would scent or kee the heaat van-hiorse and salute him with a loud neigh. This would be at once answered by the van horse, which seemed to pass the signal to the rear dlown the line, %i here it was ta~ken up from horse to horse to the very end, perhaps three- quarters of a mile away, Then, as I rapidly drove by and met, the vans, each horse would turn tow ard mine as lie passed, greeting him with a friendly and joyous neigh, ap parently holding a short conversation In I assing, as though welcoming each other after a separation. For it must be noted that it was only after a long absence that such demonstrations took place. I AM feeding this winter fifty sheep for market. I commenced to feed one pint 1,er head per day of corn, oats, cornmeal and oatmeal (that is, corn and oats5 ground together InI equal quantities), and wheat bran equal in quaitity to the oats and corn ground together. I was feeding of this mnix ture one-half of each feed clear corn, the other half composed of the whole oats and the ground feed and bran, but I do notknow whether I am feeding in the righteproportion of this mixture to get the best. results. I hope some o1 your readers who have had experience I I tell ine how to use said ieud to the best advantage. A correspondent says pretty nearly-if lie had said that Mr. bhearer's feed mixture was made by weight or measure. I think I could have figured It out all right, I would also like to know how much (if the fo! lowing mixture by weight and Inca sure both it will take to be ejuivalent to 100 pounds of corn-Lorn, Vats, corna meal and bran in equal quantitles by weight. T'Hx use of coal ashes mixtd Into clay soils has been found of great beie fit, and its value is vouched for by many agricultirlsts. Tha llusbandnan reports an experiment made with coal ashes, appllt"ed at the rate of 200 bush els to twenty square rods, or ten hush CIS to the rod. The soil was compact and heavy. The ashes were drawn on .'ate In the autumn and spread on the ?round, which had been recently plowed. In the splring the plowing ' Was repeatedl, thoroughly mixing tiie ashaes with the soil. Theb ground was planted with garden vegetables. Tihec beneicial result was in the correction of the heavy character of' the soil, the ashes acting meochianically and not as5 a manure, aand p~rodtucing a satisfactory Improvement.
