Cooper, father of Robin Cooper, Who was with the latter when he shot and killed ex-Senator Edward W. Car mack on the street here on Nov. 9, was brought into court today for trial on the charge of murder. At the same time John D. Sharp, former sheriff of this county, was also placed on trial. The two men are charged with com plicity in the shooting. COLONBL DUNCAN B. COOPER. Robin Cooper, who fired the shots which killed Carmack, was wounded and is stlU under treatment. He will be placed on trial later. The shotting was the result of attacks made on Colonel Cooper by Carmack in the letter's newspaper, the Tennesseean. Democrats Most in Washington. Taft at’ Red Cross Meet. Washington, Dec. 8.—The annual l meeting of the National Red Cross so ciety, held here today, was attended by President Elect William H. Taft, ! president of the society. Maddix it the next mayor of Atlanta. He won a decisive victory by a ma jority of 3,149 in the eight wards oi the city. He carried six of the eight wards and lost two wards by very small ma jorities. The two wards that he lost were the third and fifth, and In the third Woodward’s majority was only 21, and in the fifth it was only 51. This was about as even a break as could have been expected. Mr. Maddox carried six wards by large majorities. In the second, fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth wards Mr. Maddox’s majorities were sufficient to have elected him if all the other wards had been a tie or broken even. Never before has there been such an uprising of the people. Backed by a determination to purify the city and to make it clear once for all that the good name of Atlanta cannot be de filed with impunity, all classes have Joined together to wage such a cam paign as has never been seen in the municipal history of Atlanta. The election was noticeable for the absence of any disorder, and this fact was accounted for by the presence ol business men at each polling place who were there to work and not tc talk. Election day in Atlanta, from all points of view, was a perfect success The result, of course, being the greatest success. Victim of Forest Fire. Laurel, Miss., Dec. 3.—The forest fires which have been raging exteo aively throughout Jones and adjoin ing counties during the past few weeks, claimed another victim In the person of Alse Crosby, a well-to-do and prominent farmer of the Bay Springs neighborhood. With several of his neighbors he was fighting back the Area His clothing caught fire, and he was over come by the heat and exertion and was consumed so completely that when his remains were found there was nothing to Identify them hut a heap of charred bones.
