The town of Glen Springs is to have a new graded school building. It will be built of cement blocks. The Orangeburg city council has passed a curfew law. Children will not be allowed on the streets after 10 o’clock at night. The new Presbyterian church at Glenn Springs *is nearing completion and will be dedicated on the third Sunday in June. The town of Jonesville is to build a new school building. The corner stone will be laid with Masonic cere monies on Monday, June 8. The Glenn Springs hotel, which is now under the management of A. Schilleter, of Clemson College, was opened for the season Monday. A horse belonging to Wade Hamp ton Sellers, the blind tiger Ling of Columbia, ran away, knocking down and painfully bruising G. M. Berry, cashier of the National Loan and Ex change bank. Mrs. W- D. Boyd died at her home, near Goldville. Mrs. Boyd was the sister of'Mr. W. H. Wallace, editor of the Newberry Observer, and is sur vived by her husband, two daughters and four sons. County Treasurer H. .1. Southern, of Greenville county, has announced that he will not be a candidate for re- election, but at the expiration of his term of office he will go with the new national bank recently organized in Greenville. Fire (guupletely destroy the dwel ling and jewelry store of Mr. W. T. Johns and the offices of Messrs. Jas. \V*. Moore and Dr. R. C. Williams at Hampton. The fire originated in the kitchen of Mr. John’s residence and quickly spread to the other buildings. The office of Senator W. S. Smith was saved after a hard fight. All the buildings were partly insured, except that of Dr. R. C- Williams, which was a complete loss. Gettys, was partially destroyed by fire Wednes- d^" between eleven and twelve o’clock. The house was occupied by Robert Burgess and Garfield Hall man with families. Mrs. Burgess was in the kitchen preparing dinner, and it is supposed that the roof caught from the stove flue. The fire department was soon on the ground and extinguished the fire be fore the house was entirely destroy ed. Messrs. Burgess and Hallman saved all their belongings which were in the house, but some of the kitchen furniture was lost. There was no in surance on either building or con tents. Death of Mrs. Elizabeth Cannon. Mr. M. V. Fitzgerald was called to Converse Tuesday on account of the death of his sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Cannon. Mrs. Cannon was the wife of Mr. J. G. Cannon. She was In her sixty-first year. Her husband and seven children are left to mourn their loss. The interment was at Cannon’s Camp Ground Wednesday. “Brothe r Josiah” Coming. A roaring farce comedy, “Brother Josiah," will be given at the opera house on the night of June 29th by local talent. The play is full of comical situations and awkward episodes, and it is safe to say that there will not be a dull moment from the rising to the falling of the curtain. The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Moore died Wednesday morning at 3 o’clock. The little suf ferer was only six months old, but had lived long enough for its loss to be deeply felt by its parents, who hal the heartfelt sympathy of a large cir cle of friends.
