The revival meeting at. the First Baptist Church Is still the topic of conversation on the streets and In the various places of business in the city. Large and interested congregations attend both the afternoon and the night services. Rev. W. P. Hines Is a most earnest worker, a fluent speak er and a faithful expounder of the gospel. He is no sensationalist, but pleads with men and women to for sake the paths of sin and turn to God. While Dr. Simms does none of the preaching atlll he Is working; earnest ly and truly for the cause and is ex erting a wonderful Influence over the people. Those of us who know him cannot but note his zeal and appreciate his endeavors. He is a truly good man and his whole soul is wrapped up In the one idea of serving God and helping humanity. This afternoon at 4 o’clock Mr. Hines will preach on “The Christian’s Riches,’’ and in the evening at 8 o’clock “Repentance—What is It?’’ will be the subject. Before the Mayor. Yesterday morning Floyd Simpson ami Floyd Gou^elocb, both colored, were before the mayftr charged with disorderly conduct. It seems that both were infatuated over one Roxy Ellis, and Floyd Goudelock did not like the partiality shown to Floyd Simpson, and proceeded to chastise Roxy, whereupon Floyd Simpson in terfered and there was a general mix- up, the result being both got $10 or thirty days. Floyd Goudelock paid his fine. Liz Garrett and Marie Jefferies, both colored, were convicted of being on the streets after 8 o’clock at night, this being the second time they have been before Mayor Ross, they were given thirty days on the streets. Ada Byars and Babe Ash, both color ed, engaged in a fisticuff Saturday eve ning in front of Clary & Kirby’s market. They got thirty days or $5. The Daniel Morgan Chapter. The Daniel Morgan Chapter, D. A. R. meets at the residence of Mrs. Laurence Potter Wednesday after noon, may 13th, at 4:30 o’clock. There will be no more meetings of the Chapter until September. If those ladies contemplating joining the D. A. R. In the fall will send their applica tion papers to the Register, Mrs. Pot ter, she will have them endorsed at this meeting. The applicants may fill out the blanks during the next twelve weeks and be ready to begin work as members with the Septem ber meeting. Memorial services at Blacksburg. Memorial services were held at the Blacksburg Baptist church Sunday under the auspices of the Ladies Me morial Association of Blacksburg. Rev. B. L- Hoke was master of ceremonies. The memorial address was delivered by Hon. T. B. Butler, of this city. The attendance was large and the exercises appropriate and entertain ing. FUN AND FROLIC. The st. Louis Amusement Co. Here for Thle week. The St. Louis Amusement Co., con sisting of three tented and two plat form shows and several concessions arrived in the city yesterday morning and pitched their tents near the de pot. They will remain here for one entire week and will exhibit during the afternoon and evening of each day. Among the shows are “The Old Plantation,” “The Country Circus,” and a moving picture show; they al so carry a ferrls wheel, a merry-go- round, cane racks, etc. Agent Ike Monk assures us that the attractions are clean and clever. He has been here before and his shows were all right then, and we have no doubt but they are just as he represents them. The Italian Band was out on the streets yesterday and made excellent music. For a weeks fun and frolic, and confetti will fill the air. The Fats and Leans. The fats and leans will contest for the championship on the local dia mond at Limestone College next Fri day afternoon at 4:30 o’clock, p. m. In the morning on account of the Layman’s meeting In Chatta nooga, Tenn., was given In a very in teresting way by Mr. L- G- Potter, one of the delegates who was present. The subject was ably handled by Mr. Potter and the audience was intense ly interested in his account of what was done. It being communion day no sermon was given in the morning but at night the Rev.
