THE REVIVAL CONTINUES.
Increased Interest Beina Manifest
and Good Being Accomplished.
The revival meeting at. the First
Baptist Church Is still the topic of
conversation on the streets and In the
various places of business in the city.
Large and interested congregations
attend both the afternoon and the
night services. Rev. W. P. Hines Is a
most earnest worker, a fluent speak
er and a faithful expounder of the
gospel. He is no sensationalist, but
pleads with men and women to for
sake the paths of sin and turn to God.
While Dr. Simms does none of the
preaching atlll he Is working; earnest
ly and truly for the cause and is ex
erting a wonderful Influence over the
people. Those of us who know him
cannot but note his zeal and appreciate
his endeavors. He is a truly good
man and his whole soul is wrapped
up In the one idea of serving God
and helping humanity.
This afternoon at 4 o’clock Mr.
Hines will preach on “The Christian’s
Riches,’’ and in the evening at 8
o’clock “Repentance—What is It?’’
will be the subject.
Before the Mayor.
Yesterday morning Floyd Simpson
ami Floyd Gou^elocb, both colored,
were before the mayftr charged with
disorderly conduct. It seems that
both were infatuated over one Roxy
Ellis, and Floyd Goudelock did not
like the partiality shown to Floyd
Simpson, and proceeded to chastise
Roxy, whereupon Floyd Simpson in
terfered and there was a general mix-
up, the result being both got $10 or
thirty days. Floyd Goudelock paid
his fine.
Liz Garrett and Marie Jefferies,
both colored, were convicted of being
on the streets after 8 o’clock at night,
this being the second time they have
been before Mayor Ross, they were
given thirty days on the streets.
Ada Byars and Babe Ash, both color
ed, engaged in a fisticuff Saturday eve
ning in front of Clary & Kirby’s
market. They got thirty days or $5.
The Daniel Morgan Chapter.
The Daniel Morgan Chapter, D. A.
R. meets at the residence of Mrs.
Laurence Potter Wednesday after
noon, may 13th, at 4:30 o’clock.

the Chapter until September. If those
ladies contemplating joining the D. A.
R. In the fall will send their applica
tion papers to the Register, Mrs. Pot
ter, she will have them endorsed at
this meeting. The applicants may
fill out the blanks during the next
twelve weeks and be ready to begin
work as members with the Septem
ber meeting.
Memorial services at Blacksburg.
Memorial services were held at the
Blacksburg Baptist church Sunday
under the auspices of the Ladies Me
morial Association of Blacksburg. Rev.
B. L- Hoke was master of ceremonies.
The memorial address was delivered
by Hon. T. B. Butler, of this city.
The attendance was large and the

ing.
FUN AND FROLIC.
The st. Louis Amusement Co. Here
for Thle week.
The St. Louis Amusement Co., con
sisting of three tented and two plat
form shows and several concessions
arrived in the city yesterday morning
and pitched their tents near the de
pot. They will remain here for one
entire week and will exhibit during
the afternoon and evening of each
day. Among the shows are “The Old
Plantation,” “The Country Circus,”
and a moving picture show; they al
so carry a ferrls wheel, a merry-go-
round, cane racks, etc. Agent Ike
Monk assures us that the attractions
are clean and clever. He has been
here before and his shows were all
right then, and we have no doubt but
they are just as he represents them.
The Italian Band was out on the
streets yesterday and made excellent
music. For a weeks fun and frolic,
and confetti will fill the air.

A little early foresight will provide the means for an enjoyable
outing without “money pinch”
when vacation time comes. Open
an account with us, starting with
$1.00, $2.00 or $3.00 this week, and
add small sums to it regularly,
'’hat will solve the problem. A
Lttle more money for vacation ™
means a little longer trip, a longer
stay and a better time. Besides,
you will have formed a good habit,
will have learned how easy it is to
save, and you will never again be
without a balance to your credit
at this bank. We pay 4% interest on time deposits.

of the delegates who was present.
The subject was ably handled by Mr.
Potter and the audience was intense
ly interested in his account of what
was done.
It being communion day no sermon
was given in the morning but at night
the Rev. S. B. Harper preached as
usual. No solo work, was done by
the choir but a couple of hymn-
