When It would cost so little It looks as If the coun cil might beautify this little spot, which is not only a source of pride, but is a source of so much pleasure to the people of the town. If there is one thing that Is demanded by the people It Is that the park be kept in condition and it does seem that the city council would have the grace to do a little thing like this, especially as they are being severely criticized for not doing so. Powdered sugar has long figured among the means employed for dress ing small superficial wounds, but a German surgeon has employed it ad vantageously on recent wounds and in particular on surgical wounds. For this purpose he uses granulated sugar which has been first sterilized at 140 degrees C. and to which 2 per cent of salicylic acid has been added. Sprinkled abundantly with this mix ture. the wounds are quickly covered with granulations of an excellent ap pearance and are not long in closing. When it is a question of deep or jag ged wounds, which require draining, the German surgeon introduces into the gutta percha drains cylindrical sticks sawed out of a sugar loaf and then filed round, which have been soaked for several months in absolute alcohol salicylated at 2 per cent. Sugar dressing is counter indicated in presence of foul, suppurating wounds or those with a tendency to hemorrhage. It must also be employed only with precaution when there ex ists a denuded osseous surface, the strong drying effect of the powder be ing capable in these cases of producing necrosis.
