A citizen of Gaffney was visiting in a large city in Mexico a short time ago. He was known at home as a very eccentric man. selfish, miserly and a vertlable misanthrope. One day while going down to one of the temples, where the people of the city were wont, to congregate every eve- ing. he beheld a beautiful woman driv ing along in a victoria, gowned in a superb creation of black, the last rays of the evening sun scintllating from its diamond shape spangles, soften ing ami seemingly giving warmth to everything with which it camp into contact. For a moment our citizen stood still, held spellbound bv the beautv of the woman. Suddenly he realized that the victoria was pass ing out of view, and determining to follow, he rushed across the street and jumped into a carriage ordering the driver to follow post, haste the victoria. The merry little head In which we all take such great pride, lb that heads the top of this little skit, came dangerously near to being a farce yesterday—a merry, mocking farce, at that. I was la attendance at Mayor’s Court all right at 8 o’clock sharp, as His Honor always says, but the cour: i was not forthcoming. The Mayor was I there, the morning was there.
