IN MEXICO.
A citizen of Gaffney was visiting in
a large city in Mexico a short time
ago. He was known at home as a
very eccentric man. selfish, miserly
and a vertlable misanthrope. One
day while going down to one of the
temples, where the people of the city
were wont, to congregate every eve-
ing. he beheld a beautiful woman driv
ing along in a victoria, gowned in a
superb creation of black, the last rays
of the evening sun scintllating from
its diamond shape spangles, soften
ing ami seemingly giving warmth to
everything with which it camp into
contact. For a moment our citizen
stood still, held spellbound bv the
beautv of the woman. Suddenly he
realized that the victoria was pass
ing out of view, and determining to
follow, he rushed across the street
and jumped into a carriage ordering
the driver to follow post, haste the
victoria.
After a long chase he finally suc
ceeded in overtaking the victoria. As
his carriage drew up beside hers, she
smiled sweetly and after looking at
