Gaffney iott Discusses Plan for Clean College Athletics. Asheville. N. C., June 22.—The Southern College Students’ Y. M. C. A. conference here this evening dis cussed clean athletics, of Brooklyn, a former baseball player of Northwestern Uni versity, declared that the only remedy for evils in collegiate athletics is for men of high moral tone to compete for places on the teams. ’Speaking of distinct evils, Mr. Elliott said that the man who sold his team signals, an instance of which was mentioned, ought to be rotten-egged out of col lege. the first of June amounts to from two to over three inches, there having oc curred no beneficial rain during this month.
