Is' Economy an Object to You? Economy, at the expense of quality, is extravagance. The “ Howard” is a piano of quali ty, but economy in its con struction is practiced by elimi nating costly ornamentation. It is modest, but refined; plain, but solid and reliable. Fully warranted by us. Cash or Payments D H Baldwin, Cincinnati, 0., Represented By W. L. Johnson, Gaffney, S. C SHORT LOCALS. The weather report for todajr (Fri day) is: “Showers.” Worth Little has had his handsome residence on Rutledge avenue re painted in a pretty color, which adds greatly to its appearance. We learn that the Whittaker Mills at Blacksburg have started up again af- | ter a cessation of nearly three weeks, owing to the bursting of the cylinder. There has been “nothing doing” at the mayor’s court since Monday morn ing—four whole days without even a plain drunk or “disorderly!” Truly, Gaffney seems to be on the up grade! There was no preaching at the Bu ford Street Methodist church Sunday on account of the absence of the pas- ton, Rev. J. M. Steadman, who was called away by the death of Mrs. Steadman’s mother. Several dogs have been poisoned in the city during the last two or three weeks. Who has been doing the “dos ing act” is not known to the public. Those who have valuable dogs would better keep them at home, and not let them run loose about the city. J. R. Reason, who was very serious ly burned while at Henrietta in Janu- j ary, returned to Gaffney Wednesday.! His condition was very critical and his friends are glad to know that: he survived the painful ordeal and is able to he out upon the streets again. Will Martin, of Blacksburg, an em ployee of the Southern Railway Com- j pany, had the misfortune of getting his hand mashed while coupling cars on the yard at this place Wednesday, j The company’s physician, Dr. S. B.! Crawley, treated the wound and it is ; not thought that he will lose his hand. BOOKS OF SUBSCRIPTION OPENED State of South Carolina, County of Cherokee. Book of Subscription.
